I like him. Looks like he can be as good as if not better than Travis Ford. Of course UK let TF leave the state before he transferred back here. He’s 5-10 but only a freshman so still time to grow. This kid can seriously run a team. He is lightning quick with incredible handles & shoots like 39% from 3. He’s a defensive menace as well with very quick hands & just has a natural feel for the game that is well beyond his years. Maybe the best passer at his age that I’ve seen in the 16th region. He also gets in the lane at will & that’s the reason Ashland shoots 37% from 3 as a TEAM. Defenses collapse bc nobody can stay in front of him & he either scores on a pull-up or drive to the basket or kicks it out to one of the WIDE OPEN shooters on the perimeter. I’ll be shocked if he doesn’t play high major D1. Might be the best player in the region right now. I don’t expect Ashland to win it but if they’re shooting it well they can play with anybody in the state, Male included.
Tyler Ulis and Kennedy Chandler disagree.Cal isnt taking a short PG . Not IMHO . Period.
Madisonville is a really good team, I know they were actually supposed to play and the game got cancelled because of a tornado in Hoptown!Went to watch Male vs Ballard last night. Don't know much about a few of the teams , but somebody is going to have to be very good to beat Male. They lead decisively the entire game.
I agree on all points but I was told he's a 16 year old freshman . I doubt he gets much taller. But the kid can flat out ball. fun to watch.

He's dang good. I hope Ashland goes far ( God it hurts to say that ) but this team shares the ball like crazy , passes insanely well for a HS team and shoots it insanely well . So as an old purist I cant help but root for them.

Looks like he’s 5’7 in the videoSure looks undersized.
This comes up frequently about younger players, most notably in a couple of threads about Reed Sheppard. Some folks think it’s really weird to think a kid might be done growing by the time he’s a freshman. But it happens all the time (and that’s with true freshmen, not a 16 year old that’s a hold back). Some kids just grow early and are done early. People want to push back on that (usually followed by something like “I grew 6 more inches by the time I was a senior!”, as if that should then apply to every kid). I haven’t seen Porter, but the other three freshmen kid I’ve seen that have gotten a lot of attention (North Oldham, Ballard, Male), my strong suspicion is they are done growing. Based on physical appearance and height of Mom and Dad. When this came up last time, out of curiosity I looked at the starting 5 of our local school, all seniors, and compared them to their listed heights as freshmen. 3 of the 5 were the same height, one had grown 3 inches, and one had grown 1 inch. Which strikes me as pretty representative. If Porter is 5’10, I don’t really care how good he is, getting a D1 scholarship - let alone playing time at that level - is going to be a challenge.I agree on all points but I was told he's a 16 year old freshman . I doubt he gets much taller. But the kid can flat out ball. fun to watch.
That was in the 6th grade. I hope the kid goes on to be an all American, but a 6th grade highlight isn’t worth a whole lot....There’s a video on YT of him playing against Bronny James’ team & he still got into the paint whenever he wanted & more than held his own.
As with Glenn he is a freshman with plenty of growing time. Kaleb's parents aren't tall so l don't know how he will end up. Ballard also has a 6'9 sophmore that looks to have lots of potential.I love Porters's game but he's 5'10 maybe ? He is a tremendous passer and ballhandler but not going to be tall enough for Power 5 hoops . Maybe I'm wrong . He is really skilled but isnt going to grow anymore I'd guess.
Right. I have and uncle that grew 4 inches after high school - and a good friend did the same no way that I think about it. The majority of boys hit a growth spurt, or spurts, between 13-16. But some start at 10 and are done by 14, and some grow later.I've seen some dudes grow 4 to 5 inches in height after high school. Exception, not normal

I’m biased but it’s a team that people should get behind, IMO. They are the epitome of team basketball & as you said they really move the ball around well & they have 5 guys shooting 37% or better from 3. They start 5 guards & those guys play 90% of the minutes. And, they don’t have anyone taller than 6-2, 6-3 but they are tenacious defensively & play extremely hard. Kinda reminds me of a Hoosiers type story. They are 33-0 but have been undervalued all year & I have little doubt that it’ll continue next week.
They really don’t have many weaknesses, big, athletic, experienced, shoot it pretty well...sometimes they coast a little on their talent but it wouldn’t surprise me one bit to see them cut down the nets.Madisonville is a really good team, I know they were actually supposed to play and the game got cancelled because of a tornado in Hoptown!
Sorry Ashlanders, but y’all are out in round 1. The competition over here is by far the worst in the state. Ashland would be a .500 team in a top region. And little Colin, pump the brakes. He’s good for this area but he’s a four foot tall little white guy. His Threes are nit jumpers.
He's a freshman, but an old freshman. Plus, his parents are not very tall. He may not grow any more.
They are a very good team, and they are fun to watch. It will be a shame if fans are not allowed into the games, because this team could be a fan favorite, if they were. That being said, I think the first team they play, with a good big will give them trouble.

I heard from some folks from Elliott Co., where he transferred from, that he was 16. I don't think he is ready to turn 17, so he would get to play his sr year, but I think he would be old, for a freshman in college. The kid is good. There is no mistaking that. But, in my opinion, and I have seen kids play in Ky since 1964, he will not play at a high Div 1 level, without growing another 4 inches. Everyone has their opinion, and I could easily be wrong, but I will have to see it, before I believe it.Is he approaching or actually 17 ?

You are an idiot. You actually posted a team that went 33-0 would be 500 in a " top Region " They beat Butler and Trinity already. I prob shouldn't have answered an obvious troll.

My APOLOGIES to you Hannibal. Manitou ticked me off and I misidentified you Hannibal. My anger got the best of me but that is no excuse to misdirect as I did.
That was meant for you Manitou. All of it
My comment was for the moment...I'm sure he'll grow some more, but I'm wondering if he's faced the competition that a team like Male has. They are very athletic and quick at every position. He’s 5-10 but only a freshman so still time to grow. This kid can seriously run a team. His dad was s college fb player so l'm going to guess that he works on this part of his game. Know someone whose spouse teaches him at Male and says he's a good student and kid. Have had a small conversation with his dad a couple of times.I have seen several of these hyped freshmen, and of the ones I've seen there's little doubt he's the most physically gifted. But, I don't think I've seen him take a shot outside of 5 feet - and at 6'6 and 200, he's going to have to be able to play on the perimeter. All those gifts + all that adulation he's receiving, it has a way of squashing hunger and drive and determination and hard work. I hope he's getting good counsel and good coaching.....
