Straight up Twilight Zone

That dude is not happy, and only has himself to blame. He could have fixed this mess. All he had to do was go on a radio show, take real questions, empathize with fans, tell them what he was gonna do, and rebuild the marriage. All he had to do was call the Crafts and do the exact same shit with them. He didn't wanna do any of it, because he felt like everyone else was the problem. It couldn't have been Cal. Self reflection will either make or break this man, it's his choice.
Call the Crafts? Do you mean have the coach of the basketball team get involved pick sides in a governor's race?

You're quite right...he has only himself to blame. Obvious, even his own family knew that they couldn't talk that kind of sense into him, but yes, most people could have undone this whole deal with just a shred of humility. Not John Calipari...never.

You’re absolutely right. The fanbase might’ve been willing to give it another go if at any point in the last 4 years Cal showed any humility, empathy or admitted any kind of fault. No accountability.

He was King Cal and knew it all. He didn’t need to be accountable to us stupid hillbillies.

Just wait til' Hariett in Booger Hollow (real town) calls in to his show to ask why he doesn't play any zone.

I almost -- almost -- feel sorry for Cal. But it dawns on me that he nearly burned UK basketball down to the ground.
I don’t feel sorry for him at all, but I do feel sad about all of this. It didn’t have to be this way and it was entirely his fault. Dude just had to ****ing try a little at anything other than sending players to the NBA. I mean, the slightest attempt to teach the players anything or coach them…a little. A smidge of even fake remorse when he lost. Anything, anything better than his constant “Benny” holier than though attitude toward the fans. Just…act like a decent human being, really. He could have retired at Kentucky a hero but his head was just so far up his own ass.

It’s on Ellen and his kids, also. Not one person in his life was willing to check his ego for him. They all just bowed and let him run the train off the cliff.

So yeah, I’m sad. It feels like this was not how all this was supposed to go. So happy to be rid of him, but sure do wish sometime 3 or 4 years ago he had decided to work on himself instead. Oh well.

Very well said, he could have and he NEVER acted humble at all while we paid him 9 mil a yr. We all watched in HORROR as he did the predictable yet unbelievably stupid things in the last two games of the season, it was not good. We were ALL on here like is he really refusing to play the nuclear 5 together while we can't score!? Totally gave games away to Wagner and Edwards showcasing as his last bird.

I do not get it, take the ambassadorship, 1 mil a year and retire. Seems like a lot of work to prove a point. Ellen and him both look pretty miserable, tough to watch.
He was too cocky for that. Even up until days ago he thought he held all the cards. He thought he would play his dumb game and get UK and the fans to bend over and beg him to stay.

I’m 100% convinced had he just offered to be the ambassador early Mitch would have renegotiated his deal to pay him $2 million a year or something, to make up for the years of coaching salary he was giving up. Instead, he did this to himself.

I do t care if it was retracted as a story or not…he tried to leverage this crap and got his bluff called. Now he realizes he didn’t have the hand he thought he could play.
But he didn’t though…like literally that didn’t happen, respectfully.

He's got a Kenny Powers in Eastbound and Down trajectory going. Mexico and Myrtle Beach here we come!

A little harsh don't you think?
Going to freaking Arkansas the home Nolan Richardsons finest is a little harsh don't you think?
Pig sooey duh ballz I say CCC!! You're going to get the Ricky P treatment. You better get that middle finger ready

One of the craziest things I've seen in sports in my lifetime. Just nuts. He fell so far so fast and has to deal with it.
What is even crazier is the idiot from Arkansas who said he thinks Arkansas will make a final 4 run even though they only have 2 players who are walk-on players.

Well said, and this too accurately portrays how I and others in my small circle of friends feel. And, in keeping with his specious actions of the recent past, he essentially made a quick 180 degree turn from last week's meeting with Mitch and slipped out the back door. I feel sad. I feel somewhat duped by a Bernie Madoff scheme and scam. It will take a lot to get rid of the bad taste and slimy feel. Not much remorse. It further validates my feeling that an absurd amount of animosity had built up for us as a fan base and as a program itself. To him, we were a cancer that ultimately caused him to bail out like his jet was on fire. To me, it was he who was the cancer but it does hurt my soul to contemplate how far one can fall in a matter of a nanosecond. A strange, strange world...

You are quite correct though, one ounce of effort to change was probably all that was required for him to work this out.
