Stoops really doesn't care

Before Stoops got here, Football was just something to kind of watch till basketball got here. Outside of the Tim Couch era, I never gave it much attention.

Stoops to a large extent, and also Cals downward slid, has made me watching football again. Rich Brooks started the tread of UK football could win. Jokers set us back, and Stoops has had us on the cusp of turning the corner. Stoops has done a great job at finding some diamonds in the rough, and coaching them up. He has done a decent job at finding capable coaches, and has recruited better than we have ever seen at UK. But I think he has reached his coaching and recruiting limits. Yes, NIL could help. But is that really going to solve the problem. The truly talented kids are going to go the the NFL pipelines, best coach's, most exposure and such. NIL to them is a good consolation prize on there way to the NFL. The players that are openly shopping for NIL, makes you question there goals and what they want out of there college experience. Your going to get those kids that have all the talent, and not the drive. Stay for a year and transfer out. You build a dynasty buy getting great players, to buy into the system, to put there time in behind those in front, and shine when they are called up for their turn. The hope that you can pluck a player out of the transfer portal every year and they will seemlessly fit into the grand picture is rolling the dice. And we see that this year with Leary.

What frustrates me the most, is the lack of discipline and the coaches acceptance of it. Several players over the course of his time here should have rode the bench. Way to much chirping and stupid penalties have become hallmarks of his tenure. He lacks the killer instinct to finish off teams early, wanting to slow the game down and produce rock fights.

As much as he has done, I don't see him changing, and the intrest level is starting to wane again. Just not sure how much longer till I am disinterested again. A major shake up or philosophy change needs to happen. The status quo of the last few years is not going to get us over the hump. Beat the elite teams won't happen, nor will we get those 5 star players, till we start beating the teams consistently we should, and stop shooting ourselves in the feet with stupid, undisciplined play.

He's entrenched here...win some lose some... that's the look I'm getting from him.
He’s been as bad as we’ve had several times this season. But your take is flat wrong. All these coaches want to win. Coaches get fired by the dozens every year. You think they didn’t care about winning? Their professional reputations are on the line. Their salary is on the line. Their next salary is on the line.

Stoops is not mailing it in. He wants to win. His team just isn’t as good as we all thought it was and he’s stepped in shit on several occasions this season. But he cares about winning

Until UK fans treat their coach as disposable property nothing will change. Sure Stoops and the other coaches want to win but at the other SEC schools coaches have to win or go down the road counting mail boxes. Stoops is keep around because fans accept what we saw tonight.

I most certainly wont be .. Ive had my fill of season tickets . Fun to see fam and friends , but the football is a joke

Not happy with the results....but Stoops does care and hates to lose.
He's lost WAY TOO MANY games over the past few seasons because of his team's lack of discipline!!!! He needs to care MUCH MORE!!!

Why doesn't he hold his players AND coaches accountable for all of the unforced STUPID mistakes that have kept his teams from reaching even HIGHER levels???!!!!!

To be truly successful at UK, the coach has to instill discipline that is ABOVE and BEYOND our opponents because of the talent gap. That lack of discipline can ALSO cause you to lose to teams with less talent, like tonight and several other losses over the Stoops tenure.

For UK to duplicate other programs( Kansas St, Va tech, Mizzou under Pinkel) that were former doormats, Coach Stoops MUST limit the unforced errors. He is making a top 10 salary, it's not too much to ask.

When we start playing with MORE discipline and winning MORE games like tonight's, then just MAYBE the fans will WANT to "Pony Up more"!!!!

Dude chuckled on a call and said that basically this job is hard if someone else thinks they can do it then they can try.
That tells you all you need to know ..stoops believes that it's acceptable.
He's made the comment before about how this place was before he arrived. I really think he believes he is the God of this program and lackluster efforts aren't a big deal because look at where you was when I found you mentality.

A whole BUNCH of our fans seem to have that attitude as well

He better expect to hear it from the fans if that is right. We have the BEST sports fans in the world. He is making 9 million and with that comes expectations... if he is going to be a baby about it and say, "Pony up more money if we want to not get blown the f out by Georgia"... he can kick rocks man.
I got an idea baby... Take 1 million out of your contract.... divide it up between 10 game changers and pay them SOB's 50k each to come play for you.. eerrrrr I mean, donate it too the "NIL conglomerate"....
This is how paying the players have got out of hand. They need to get a scale on how and which players to play.. from Football revenue/Basketball Revenue, etc. down to shuffleboard.
If we can send a f'n man to the moon I think we can solve this stupid ish.

Don't u know that we should be grateful beating the 4 OOC, Vandy and sneaking by a down Mizzou, FL, or SC and recruiting at the bottom of the conference is the pinnacle of this program? How ever could we replace such production from our coaching staff.

Coaching is becoming almost impossible at the college level for the middle of the road programs especially in the SEC. The talent level across the board is ridiculous. You better acquire a bunch of talent keep said talent or you are going to lose 3-4 games purely because of talent. Then you may lose 1-2 more because you just don’t play well.

He is earning his pay because the fans are selling out games. Once that stops then he like others will have to face the music. No one is immune from being fired once fans check out.

As an outsider he has done a terrific job at UK. It is just brutal competition week in and week out. It will only get harder with expansion.

Seems like that's every year

Talk about a whitewash. "Isn't as good as we all thought" is a severe understatement. And nobody here agrees with you. We are terrible and Stoops is also turning a blind eye to a severe lack of discipline and dirty play. Not surprising that doesn't concern you.

maybe I am naive, but two games in I think that should be fixed. I mean from day one you should be taking a hard stance. I'm just wondering if it started with the late hit on Leary and the team coming in to defend him. Lots of shoving and probably more and the refs let it go with just the personal foul on Mizzou, and that set the tone.

It's the exact same issue we have with our basketball program.

2 coaches making too much for what they produce.
2 coaches that are too comfortable.
2 coaches who have been here too long.

If years of stable mediocrity or worse is what we now aspire to, then thank this guy:

Who has also been here too long, making too much, and far too comfortable .

I didn't think anyone did anything to be ejected for. The hit was a little late and was called, what were the officials suppose to do?

How da fuq do you justify 9 mil for a losing record against SEC teams? Going to a bowl? More than HALF of FBS teams go to a bowl, and a lot of them are sub .500. The cherry on top is the lack of discipline. Like a bunch of roid head bouncers at a college bar.

I'm pretty down on Stoops after that debacle....the Missouri game bothers me infinitely more than the Georgia game. But beating Tennessee in two weeks would go a long way in my book. Redeem yourself!!

This is the consequence of Mitch’s contracts. Mark spent years cashing raises and extensions for beating directional schools and the bottom of the SEC. Our program (and schedule) is built to hold the line and win 6-8 games every year. If the league regresses seriously, you might sneak up and win 9 in the regular season. (That’s still going to include frustrating, close games against mid majors where we come out completely unprepared, inexplicable duds in league play, and curb stompings from the top of the league.) He has never and will never have an incentive to change or want to take a risk to move that needle- his boss has made very clear what he expects and celebrates.
