Stoops Post Game

Yeah, that's a tough post-game presser- what can he really say after that performance? Game started off somewhat promising, but that interception where the ball was tipped down near the goal line killed the team. Cats had momentum and on the verge of scoring, and next thing you know it's going the other way. That was very deflating and frustrating.

After watching Coach Stoops' post game press conference I wondered if we had watched the same game!

Coach is trying to salvage the rest of season, a loss like this can destroy a teams confidence. What do you guys want him to do, throw individual players under the bus, say his staff is substandard, admitted the coaching philosophy he has based his whole career on is obsolete. None of those things will be discussed in a post game press conference

Tennessee played like the best team in the country. They were at home and they executed. They are probably winning it all.

We need talent. When are we ever going to have it?
I feel like the talent is there. This offensive scheme is just not good. So bad in fact that the last time it was used it was last in every major category and NFL statistic. I think I have said it 1000 times today. If he was a good coordinator, then he would have kept his OC position 3 years ago. This is Apple to oranges when compared to Coen. Coen was unproven and it worked out for him. Scang had his chance in the league as a coordinator and it was complete disaster. He came in for an interview and wowed stoops with his QB knowledge. But having knowledge doesn’t equal out to being a good play caller.

How badly will recruiting suffer going forward especially with wide outs ? Stoops must make wholesale changes to his coaching staff in the off season, OC and OL must go and perhaps some coaches on the defensive side as well.
Who on the defensive side of the ball would you can?

It will take all their energy just to keep some guys from transferring. If you are a wr and you lose a qb and rb from this offense with nobody really in the wings for next year what are they going to be thinking about in the off season?

Bad throw by Levis, Key was a sitting duck

Not sure what the play caller is suppose to do. The UT DL was dominating the LOS, making WL uncomfortable when he dropped to pass and making every yard a tough one. The may do the same thing to us next week, they are on a roll and playing with alot of confidence.

Add to it they took advantage of every mistake UK made.

Now it appeared UK was a little late getting signals in, officials should have hit Chumlee with a flag for being on the field, 2 of them and he goes to the dressing room.

Offense was offensive....no other way to put it. Continuing story of "can't run block and pass block." How can we struggle with run blocking so much at this point in the season? Big Blue Wall looks more like a Big Blue folding chair. Our QB isn't healthy enough to maneuver (see pass blocking note above) nor savvy enough in the pocket to throw the ball away when pressure comes and everyone is covered. It looked like UT had 18 defenders on the field as we were swarmed all night. Levis does not appear to be improving in pocket presence or accuracy (QBR of 16.4). He is stuck on "has all the physical tools" and that is all. To be fair....we haven't protected him worth a fiddler's d@mn this year (see pass blocking note above). We compiled 205 total yards and scored 6....'nuff said.

Special teams requires special treatment. There is NO excuse for missing PATs throughout the year. Once, our punter had a defender come unabated to him....right off tackle and he barely got a bad punt off. We were never in a position to try a FG and that may be the best news on the night for this phase of the game. ST has looked like the dog's breakfast all year long.

Defense: I like our D on the whole this season, but when playing an elite QB....bend-don't-break and lack of pressure (blitz) on the QB for 60 minutes is a recipe for disaster and we had a heaping helping of disaster last night. We looked "surprised" UT would run tempo (SMH). What did we do for two weeks in preparation for Hooker & Co? Whatever it was, do something else in practice this week.

The only good thing I saw were a couple of instances of good, one-on-one open field tackles.

If football is blocking and tackling, we're proficient in less than 50% of the game because we can't run or pass block on O; pressure the QB on D; nor protect the kicking game on ST. These are fundamentals where Stoops' teams are normally strong. We have fatal flaws in all three phases of the game.

GBB!

Great question.....you have to wonder how we'll address the needed RB and QB talent we don't have on roster for future. And can we keep the WR kids wanting to play when we play this bad.

Where were the mods last night? After a brutal game against UT I would have thought at least one would be looking over the forum to ban some of the UT trolls.

I wouldn’t call that a tipped ball. Levis threw his receiver right into getting blown up. That’s not a tipped ball.

The receiver ran the route and was open for a split second, the ball was there...it hit both hands and body and he couldn't hold on. Should have been caught....period.

You’re technically right about what you said, but I’m right about what I said too. Levis threw his receiver into getting blown up. Even if he hung on to the ball it wouldn’t change what I said.

True, but when your pass blocking only gives you scant time to process the field....you get what you get and balls that get delivered need to be caught.

The drop by Robinson was big too
That was a big play for sure. He catches that and it’s a house call or at least a big gainer. Another big play early was the PI on Phillips. They punt there if not for that bullshit call. Instead, they score. Big momentum swing on both plays imo, with the coup de gras coming on the Levis goal line pick.
