Stoops has said that this year's offense took too long to get plays off. He doesn't want a hurry up offense, but he doesn't want the defensive players to be able to take a rest between every play. In our best years, Stoops teams have been able to wear out defenses, keep the game close, then close it out by pounding out first downs in the 4th and running out clock. .

In order to do that you must have a staunch OL, a running back who can punish tacklers, and an offense that doesn't have a huge number of 3 and outs. You must keep the offense on the field and you must run enough plays to get the D gassed...i.e. don't take too much time between snaps.

In addition to this it is important to use all of the field... keep pounding the D but also keep them running. I actually like this philosophy when you have the horses to pull it off. I loved watching teams like SC look utterly dejected and unable to stop us in the 4th qtrs in past years. Nothing like a 6 minute drive while ahead by a TD to close it out.

This system still needs a good passing game, but the bread and butter is in the trenches and the bruising RBs like Snell and CRod.
