LEXINGTON, Ky. — Kentucky football continues to honor former offensive line coach John Schlarman and will continue to do so in the future. Schlarman left a strong legacy in his final years and will be remembered as a source of inspiration for how he lived his life.
During last week’s inaugural golf event for Schlarman’s family, head coach Mark Stoops and star offensive lineman Darian Kinnard spoke about Schlarman’s impact on them and the program moving forward. Stoops appointed long-time offensive line coach Eric Wolford, a Youngstown, Ohio, native, to the position following the conclusion of the 2020 regular season. Wolford and Stoops coached together at previous spots, including Houston and South Florida in the mid-2000s. Stoops believes that Wolford is the right guy to continue Kentucky’s tradition of excellent offensive line play.
“Eric is the perfect fit,” Stoops said. “I think anyone that spends any time around him will get a great feel for that, including our players. He will always embrace the legacy of John Schlarman and with LeeAnne and with the family. But Eric is easily likable. He’s the type of guy that has a great relationship, much like John, people don’t realize, just because John was such a great guy and perceived as easy going, but John was really hard on the players and very demanding.
