Stoops surprised KSR this morning and called into the show. Here are a few tidbits from what he had to say (credit to KSR website):

“You feel it around our building, you feel it for the last few days. Those guys trained their tails off all summer and have really done the right things,” Stoops said. “Seeing the guys bouncing around here, their attitude, that twinkle in their eyes saying ‘I’m ready, Coach, We’re ready to go.’ You can tell it’s not fake. These guys are ready to play. It’s been a fun group.”

Stoops said he’s pleased with the depth at certain areas, particularly safety, but “we’re still not there yet”; however, he does feel like his team is finally on an even playing field with the rest of the teams in the league.

“It feels like I blinked my eyes and those first two years are gone. There have been some long days, but overall, it’s really gone fast,” Stoops said. “Like I said on your show after ‘We’re just getting started.’ That’s truly how I feel. That’s how energized I am, those how the staff feels, that’s how the players feel. We’re just getting started. We’re new in this program, but you know what, we’re finally out of that hole we were in. We’ve dug ourselves out of that hole and we’re on an even playing field, and that’s why it’s exciting because our players know it. They know, they truly believe that when we take the field, we have an opportunity to win each and every Saturday.”

CANT WAIT FOR SEPTEMBER 5TH!!!!!

Yeah Stoops was pumped...got me pumped up! I believe we're gonna see a new attitude out there this year. Guys are mad at how the end of last season went and they went out in the offseason and did something about it.

No doubt, ready for some FB! I'll get to go to a couple of games this year; gamecocks and gators, looking forward to see the Cats end a couple long losing streaks. Last win in Columbia pretty sure was 93 and of course the Fla streak.

It is exciting to know that the guys performed during the most important part of the season...SUMMER. Their bodies are conditioned, the gameplan will be there, the talent is there.....all that is left is to go out and execute. If we start off the season 2-0 then Commonwealth will erupt for the Florida game. Finish the Gators and start 3-0 and Commonwealth will burst at the seams for Missouri. DO THAT and it will be ridiculous with the hype around our team being what would be 5-0 (3-0 SEC) after EKU with Auburn rolling in for a night game. GO CATS!

If we somehow start 5-0 I believe we take Auburn to the wire, maybe OT. Don't know if we'll win but we'll be ready and Commonwealth will be ROCKING

I don't recall any off-field issues in the off-season either. Some of the programs we're competing against seemed to have one every week. That is also a good sign.

We have SEC level talent now, but for the most part they're still underclassmen. So we've got the talent part, but could use a little more experience to really get rolling. Just getting to 6-6 and a bowl bid would be a huge accomplishment for this team. We may only be favored in four games this year.

Stoops know that he got a good team, all of them are training hard to be better.

Go Big Blue!!!!

Yeah from what some say on this board Stoops really doesn't like Matt Jones, but rather just tolerates him. I'm sure he would call into Matt's show if he really despises him, huh?

It is truly amazing how well the guys he's brought in have been. Shows we got some high character guys and they are all in on this thing! Because you know Stoops wouldn't put up with it

I would have been pumped for football even without the coaches call but I'm so ready for the season to kickoff.

If we start out 5-0 I'm gonna do back flips up and down my street, and I've never done a back flip before. Go big blue!!!

Yeah, surprised anyone on this forum was listening to know Stoops called in with the hatred for that show on here. Stoops has a right to be excited, and fired up for the season. He knows he finally has enough talent and depth to probably not only get UK to a bowl game, but perhaps win 7-8 regular season games this year (best case probably is 8, maybe 9 if we are really wanting to go big), and can with his recruiting that will be the norm. I love that Stoops is such a passionate guy, as guys want to come to play for a coach like that.

I wear a 7 1/2 and have eligibility. lets knock some heads. oops, I might be a tad brittle. everything I have read and heard around the program, I will be surprised if we don't bowl. CMS seems very confident in the guys.

My favorite quote: "We're finally out of that hole, we're on a level playing-field with our opponents, and our players are confident that they can go and have a chance to win each and every game that we play."

I don't know about you, but that doesn't sound like a 5-win season to me.

We were only favored in three games heading into last season and ended up being a blown call at Florida (where we were dramatic underdogs) away from six or seven wins..not to mention the fact that we had a shot at winning every game but three on our schedule..we were only favored in three heading into the season, and ended up having a chance to win in nine of twelve games

Crazy thing about the FLorida game if Tiller catches that interception(how many times I gotta say that through the years), or Timmons catches that pass, we don't even need OT to beat those guys. I look forward to putting a beat down on Florida this year, I would love for our guys to come out and take 28 years of frustration out on them. Like 42-3 or something crazy :)

My excitement grows daily! Hearing that coming from the man himself certainly adds to it. Hopefully continued good recruiting helps keep it that way, and improve on it further for years to come. An even playing field doesn't mean our Cat's win every game, but it sure means they'll have a chance to win a lot more. I see it in the way I view this year. I really think Auburn and Georgia are the only two teams on the schedule this year we're not quite ready to compete with. All the others I feel are very much in play.

Yup, he's expecting a bowl game is what that quote sounds like to me.

Get me 6 regular season wins this year and I am a very happy man! I hope at least 2 of those are against Florida and UL.

I hope Stoops has the same distain for Petrino that I have. When we get this thing rolling I hope Stoops runs the score up on that classless POS every chance he gets. Petrino looked like a damn clown hurrying his team to the line of scrimmage to try and punch in another TD with the game in hand last year

Matt asked if practice started today. He has been wrong about practice all week long, evidently. Odd.

I kinda felt bad for Matt when he said, "so practice starts today, right?", and Stoops said, "No, it starts tomorrow." Haha but anyways, what I'd love more than anything this season is getting to about 7 wins and having wins over Florida & Louisville included in there (with a chance to get to 8 wins in the bowl game)..that would be a pretty dang successful season in my book :uzi:
