Stewart Mandel says 10-2 for the Cards

The ACC is (very) weak this year. Clemson and FSU have taken major injuries/losses in pre-season. UofL could be a mediocre team and have close to a 10-2 record.

Louisville will struggle to beat NC State let alone FSU and Clemson. They have a solid front seven and a bunch of question marks.

2 losses huh. They play Auburn, Clemson, FSU, NC State and us. They could easily lose all of those and I'd be willing to bet they do lose 4 of the 5.

I agree with you that the ACC is not on par with the other P5 conferences. I don't think this year is weak necessarily. Compared to the other P5s, the ACC is never as deep or as strong, even in years when its top 2 or 3 teams are good. I do not see UL going 10-2. This is not a particularly good UL team. Looking realistically at their schedule, 7-5 or 8-4 looks about right, depending on how they do with NC State, Pitt, Syracuse, BC. Barring a great skewing of the game by key injuries, which is always possible, I do not think UL can handle Kentucky in Lexington.

Don't disagree with you, but the ACC is down this year compared to its usual weak self. For the record, I would be surprised with 10 wins for the Cards.

There is a very good chance that the dirty birds' lose 2 of the first 3, and 3 of the first 6 in the first half. they could very well lose 3 of the last 6. So little brother may very well be looking at a 6-6 or even a 5-7 type season. I know lurker's take it to your board and have a big laugh, but it's not that far fetched.

Louisville fans are in for a long year. Their football team will get 7 to 8 wins sure, but then they will play against an actual good team in a bowl and lose. Then in basketball they will not make the tournament.

They will need to be more than mediocre, but I agree. They will be a good team.

Haha I've got them 7-5 at best. 10-2? That's hilarious.
7-5 at best? Geez, biased much?

10-2 is very doable. In fact, to me best case is 11-1. I think it's going to be hard for us to go down and win at FSU but there isn't one other game that scares me. Sure, we might lose a couple but we can win almost any game on that schedule. The FSU game is the only one I just can't give to us.

You've given UofL the win over Auburn?

Best case scenario, yes. It's certainly not a given but yes, I believe we can beat Auburn and quite honestly I think we will beat Auburn. It's not a given but I think we win that game. Auburn finished the year pretty bad last year and lost their QB. Bobby's had the whole summer to prepare for this game and Bobby doesn't lose openers where he's prepared all summer long.

They didn't beat a team that finished ranked in the top 25 last year. Unless they get Clemson at home this year it will happen again. ACC is very average. Beware the Houston game. It's also likely that Auburn rolls them. They have built in 7-8 wins as their schedule really isn't any better than some years of the old Big East.

If there really is a battle at QB between Reggie B and ACL tear, UofL will struggle offensively. I don't care how good the D is, in college football - if you cannot score you will lose some games. I think 7-9 wins is the window.

What position does Bobby play? He has never faced a team in an opener while at UL that was ranked or had more talent. Hope he plays OL because on paper right now you aren't looking to good.

They sprung two outstanding players from death row in that linebacker from TCU and SS from UGA . So should their defense be called the Death Row Defense,or the CardCrashinCriminals? ....No other team in the country would take those thugs. Card fans should be really proud of their product on the field.

I haven't heard many UL fans too pumped for football season.

I expect them to win 9. 10 if the ACC is doo doo. Can't seem them losing less than 8.

11 is possible, but I would definitely take the under.

I have them winning 8. Possibly 9 if they beat us. Which is certainly doable. Saying they can win 9 is not much different from some believing we can win 9. Neither is likely, but possible if every single thing goes our way. If they can beat Auburn in ATL or Clemson at home, then they are certainly way better than most think and it will be a big challenge for us. I try to stay objective and not be completely blinded by my utter hatred for their football program, but I do think they take a couple of lumps this year. I could be wrong. It's happened before...

How louisville responds to Auburn's pass rush (which isn't great) and Auburn's passing attack (unproven at this point) will be an indication of the their season. If they struggle with both then there is no way they get more than 7 wins.

IMO, Auburn will mop the field with UofL. Auburn has a very good DL going against UofL's weakest squad (OL). Auburn's run game is just as lethal, and more deceptive, than UGA's. Petrino will initially scheme for Auburn's aggressiveness on defense, but it won't keep them in the game. Also, as Grumpy can attest, we saw the beginning of the true Grantham defense in UofL's last game...

If Auburn mops the floor with UL, it will be the most surprising event of the first weekend. Why do SEC fans have this much faith in this Auburn team?

I explained my reasoning - UofL's OL won't be able to handle AU's DL, and UofL won't be able to handle AU's run game.

I have no clue what to expect for Louisville this season. I don't know the roster and I sure as heck don't know how the rest of their conference is looking. I do know this though. We're beating them in Commonwealth.

We will see. And, if so, I think it will be the story of the weekend.
I would be shocked if it's anything but a blowout. UofL lost tons from last year, and Grantham is not a good DC. Auburn has as much talent as any team in America. But, as you said, we will see. Petrino doesn't scare other teams the way he seems to vex UK (and its fans)...

Other than the Petrino not scaring teams, I think I disagree with each of those points. I could agree with the "lost tons" comments, if it was qualified by "but they have a lot back, especially on defense."
