State of 2023 Recruiting

Good point. There’s been a lot of change recently so it’s hard to attribute it to just one thing. I just mean playing for your home or in-state school has an appeal to a lot of recruits, and Cincy with the Big 12 plus playoff appearance has legitimized themselves as an option for good players. Totally buy their NIL is farther ahead than us too which is another huge factor.
If UC is ahead of us in NIL….we are behind every school in the SEC including Vandy.
Not good

Everybody needs to chill: there are currently 7 SEC schools behind us in the rankings, currently.
UK is tied for last in average star rating and the 3.0 over 6 commits. Granted there is still a long way to go....but this is a very bad start especially coming off of a freaking Citrus Bowl victory and a stronger offensive philosophy.

This smells like NIL from mile away.

Enjoy the next two seasons because after that unless our lord and savior Mitch tha all mighty has a change of heart on NIL we are heading back to the bottom of the SEC.

Happy to have him for the visit. Getting a FL kid that Cristobal wants would be impressive. Stafford is taking essentially four officials over the next two weeks. Not sure if UF is in on him. Also Lanning at Oregon getting an OV next weekend adds another layer to it. Guy can recruit.

You'd think they still hold cache in the Miami area among coaches though.

Reed is part of the U's off the field staff now, unless Cristobol cut him loose. His job was to keep the kids within 30 minutes of Miami there and was/is doing a pretty good job of that.

Of course we aren't.

Our coaching staff has more than earned our confidence. Let's act like we have learned something about their skills and initiative during the last five years. Good news is on the way.

Because the summer camps are underway in Lexington, we can expect good recruiting news this month. In the next two weeks, UK should receive multiple verbal commitments. Judging by some of the prospects visiting Lexington this week and next, there could be a significant surprise or two. Don't underestimate this coaching staff.

Kind of funny how some of y'all are chicken littles screaming the sky is falling when we literally just 6 months ago signed our highest rated recruiting class in school history, consensus inside top 15 by all services. And of them, our overall talent is so good only a LT and WR will be challenging for starting spots come fall.

You are right. This is just June. They don't sign until December. Different coaching staffs have their own ways of being economical with scholarships, and this can change year over year depending on lots of factors. This year, UK's offensive coaching staff has undergone a renovation, which means some new schemes and different recruiting needs.

At the end of the day, individuals usually tend to be positive or negative by nature. Negative people create negative energy for everyone around them.

Negative posting by people who just don't know any better has really hurt the basketball board and is slowly destroying this football board too for other participants who only want to know the occasional accurate fact about what is going on.

I expect our 2023 recruiting class to be roughly as good or better than 2022, although different positions are being more heavily recruited this time. By the end of the summer, this class will look a lot different. But the gloom and doomers will not admit they were wrong. They will just go negative about something else.

As TuckyFB posted above, Austin Ramsey has now committed to UK. Ramsey was in Lexington recently for a visit. He is being recruited by OL coach Zach Yenser.

Ramsey is reportedly 6'4" and I have seen his weight reported anywhere from 340-360#. Ramsey is a big guy. He is a hs LT from Philadelphia who will probably play OG at the SEC level. He needs to work on his conditioning and excess weight, but he is reported to be very strong and surprisingly athletic. He has reportedly received at least five B10 offers although UK appears to be his only current SEC offer.

UK's current 2023 commitments-

Ty Bryant, DB, Lexington, KY
Tanner Lemaster, TE, Washington Ct. House, OH
Kaden Moorman, RB, Frankfort KY
Shamar Porter, WR, Nashville, TN
Austin Ramsey, OL, Philadelphia, PA
Malachi Wood, OL, Richmond, KY
Tommy Ziesmer, LB, Danville, KY

Expect several more commitments to UK's class before the end of this month. The latter half of June can be one of the busier times of the year for public commitments and a lot of 2023 prospects are visiting Lexington this month. There have been recent public reports from multiple sources that UK is the leader for several players who have recently visited.

Cincy has NIL and good pub right now, heck, they'll even do alright in the big12 at first, but the grind of playing in a P5 conference is different than playing an AAC schedule. They're peaking at a great time for them, but things will be different in 2023.

Missouri is a great example of how things can change stepping up to another level. The SEC was a notch above the big12 top to bottom. The big12 is a notch above the AAC top to bottom. What's hurting us against UC right now is that they still have a cupcake schedule by comparison for one more year, and will never have the degree of difficulty we have in the SEC. That's a selling point for the health of the players and the win column for now.

Im guessing the parents sending their kids there aren't looking at the murder rate and crime increase in Cincinnati that has gone through the roof the past few years. 2019 they were top ten in the country for murders per 100k people.

or maybe kids and parents love Fickell and UC's campus is one of top most beautiful campuses rated by Forbes.

Looks like Coach Scangarello is pushing for Danny O’Neil, a quarterback from Indy in the 2024 class. This is the 2023 thread, so I wonder if O’Neil could reclass or if there has been any headway on 2023 QBs.

Factually untrue about Cincy in 2019:

Now for 2022, it may be true.

Josh Edwards just put a Crystal Ball for Danny O'Neil to UK, but also put one for Conyer to Tennessee. Gut punch if that happens.

Side note, but UC in the Big 12 seems like a real blow to WVU recruiting. I know we’ve talked a lot about how it’ll affect our recruiting. But WVU is out of the conference footprint, doesn’t have much in state talent and now has UC one state over getting dibs on a lot of that regional talent now that they’re P5. WVU also likes to recruit Pennsylvania wouldn’t surprise me to see Cincy grab some of those kids too.
Calhoun just committed to Cincy!
