It always matters. In some ways it matters more in that game. We're the superior team. We needed to come out and set that tone so they didn't get their confidence. Especially them being in desperation mode.
Instead we let them jump out, get a lead, get their confidence up, and they never looked back.
Ya we should've won anyway. In the regular season I can listen (but disagree) with the notion of starting whomever to keep their confidence up etc. But this is March. No more time for confidence building or any other feelings except winning
One of the the most bizarre things about Calipari is his management of line ups. I try very hard to believe that Cal doesn't promise minutes or starting roles to players, but that belief is increasingly suspect.
Our team has its issues, especially defensively, but it looks a lot more organized and under control when Reed is in the game-and it has since the beginning of the season. Why we didn't build this team around him, Dillingham, and Reeves is beyond my understanding. Are they defensive liabilities-well maybe-but who on the team isn't? DJ?

It does t matter. Florida started 0-8 hole and was up 48-33 at half. What happens if you go down 8-1 with Reed and Rob starting?? Where do you look then??? For Edwards and DJ to save ya???
I’d rather take my chances with my best line up as often as possible and I’d be willing to bet every coach in the country would say the same.

We all can think of a few games this year when Dilly made some bonehead plays and got benched. He is not cursed for the game! We've seen him flip that bad mojo around in a matter of seconds.
What's more perplexing to me is how some fans defend this.
I can see leaving Dilly off bench for 6th man and keep scorers on the floor when starters rest....but to have them both off bench...was just plain goofy bullcrap.
But UK just accepts it and makes no move to get Cal out of here....so what does it all matter in the end if Mitch/Capiluto just sit there and watch it happen year after year

UK's starting lineups have been outscored by 31 points this season when in the game. Starters have only outscored opponent in 2 of the last 10 games.
I coached at a much lower level than Kentucky, obviously, but always, always started my 5 best players even against a far less talented team. Cal will never do that just to spite what we say on boards like this one (yes, he or someone in the program reads this stuff). He will be so stubborn to never indicate he may have been wrong. I really believe that about his ego.
Last year we had a lottery pick sit the bench, collect NIL, train at our facilities and refuse to play. This year we have 2 projected lottery picks who would gladly start but ride the pine to start both halves.

I agree but DJ and Edwards has to play at some point due to exhaustion and fouls. I think maybe start Reed and have Dilly to come in for energy. But absolutely play your best lineup if you can.
Zero doubt in my mind he would rather lose than be proven wrong in public . None .

You can't see the strategy at work there? Start an inferior lineup to lull the opponent into a false sense of security, then blast them when they least expect it with your kickass bench.

nope, I’ll hold true to my word just have to wait until we’re officially cooked. Then I’ll start turkey hunting and not think of this board for a few months. Fair is fair, I lost and he won. I still think we have a top 5 pick, possibly 2. I also still think this team with the right coach wins at least 30 games.
How could any man have concern for two players feelings but not for two others? I mean, two top five draft picks not starting, how about their feelings knowing that them along with Reeves are the three best players on the team. How has he got away with it all season? It all comes down to worrying about a couple of guys getting drafted high instead of what is best for the team, program and fans.
Forget starting. We have enough potential lineup combinations that Ugo, Thiero, Wagner and Edwards should never be on the floor together. The catch and shoot threes that Wagner and Edwards can make aren't even available without the floor spacing Rob, Reed and even Z provide. It’s just bad coaching. There’s no excuse for it.

I have cautioned my Cat friends all year, that regardless of the talent on this team, Cal is still coaching them in the tournament.
That should temper everyone's expectations if they have been watching the past decade.

Cal has did that all yr- our starting 5, once the subs start to happen, the starters never play together again during the whole game -start your best players
I can't understand why we don't feed the post a few times a game. We don't have to make the centerpiece of the offense, just let Z or Bradshaw make some plays with their. back to the basket.
So many of the other teams I've watched with 7'ers let those guys shoot hook shots or make moves to score.

You CANNOT COACH a player you have made ANY commitment to.
Once a coach is compromised, someone else is dictating his job responsibilities.
You better hope Cal doesn't read this, or one of his "boys" on here tell him what the "Bennies" want to do.
