SportsCenter coverage of the 1996 NCAA championship

Talk about some intense nostalgia. What a wonderful time that was to be alive. My first real Kentucky season was 1993. I was born in Kentucky, but nobody in my family really cheered for them. I remember watching them on TV and falling in love with Mashburn and Travis Ford.

It was pretty awesome to be able to cheer for a program that was the IT program at that time. It broke my heart when Pitino left. I think we would have tied UCLA by now if he had stayed.

No doubt in my mind, he would have been coach K’s equal at worst. They would have battled to be the best coach ever.

Couple of things that stuck out from the various segments:
1. Pope sounded EXACTLY the same in his interview after the championship game as he does today: "so grateful to be here", "couldn't imagine being anyplace else", "so happy to be able to add to the legacy" type stuff. Very cool

2. Digger was predicting Pitino's departure on the championship coverage show...the very night of the championship. Prick...

3. Chris Fowler, sitting w/ the 2 coaches, was the only one fo the 3 to predict UK as '97s best team...which we were, pre-Anderson injury
