Sports seasons are stretching too far...

Baseball has fallen off the map.

Before free agency really took off we could name the starters for multiple clubs during the 70's and early 80's.

Cincy of course was easy but I even knew the ones i hated:

Dodgers - Garvey, Lopes, Cey, Baker, Yeagar, Monday, Russell, Sutton, Sutcliff
Cards - Hernandez, Templeton, Brock, Dane Iorg
Pirates - Ott, Stargill, Moreno, Parker, Blylevin, Candelaria - Still remember Stargill and Bradshow being co players of the year on Sports Illustrated cover

Baseball cards were the thing.

The All Star game was always big.

Dont really know any Reds anymore outside of Votto, Bruce and Phillips, I havent watched a World Series game in many years...

I'm right there with you. I remember we used to know the pitching mechanics and batting stances of players as well. During wiffleball games, arguments over who got to be Kent Tekulve or Nolan Ryan were common. Yeah, compared to then it has fallen off the map.
Regarding the OP, I think because of the wild card teams, the baseball regular season should either start earlier or cut some games. Playing into November just doesn't seem right.

The NBA playoffs are way too long. They need to go back to the best of 5 in the first round.

That's not really going to make any noticeable difference, most of the first round series end in four to six games, so we are only talking saving like one game. The biggest problem is the big break in between games because of TV, many times there is a two-day break with no change in location. So like Game 1 in Cleveland is a Monday, Game 2 in a Thursday, for example. I get it having a two-day break when their is a location chance, especially if it's a a large distance like Boston to LA

College basketball is not too long. Most others are.

When Gottfried was at Alabama he was suggesting that college basketball start in January. He wanted a shorter season. LOL
