Sources Say - Pilgrim thinks Bradshaw/Thiero/Burks/Hart return

DK couldn't even make 1st team all Big Sky conference.
Didn't Wheeler lead the SEC in assists, and scored quite well for a PG.

A good coach should be able to see beyond the stats and records and "expert" projections.

There was and is a clear distinction in the two. Wheeler has never been able to do anything but pass. To this day, even being as objective as possible, it’s mind boggling that Calipari watched that kid and thought yes, that’s my guy.

He doesn’t fit UK, Calipari, or any blue blood. I will never understand and said many times we’re going nowhere with wheeler at the helm. It’s almost like we got down to zero options and just had to do it, but that’s not true either IIRC.

No doubt. I think he probably just needs to get stronger and quicker to be better able to guard perimeter players. Supposedly his shooting is quite good.
But we will either return Reed (or Wagner) or add a portal-shooter. And after this year, it should be much easier for us to add a portal-shooter than prior years.

For those who've seen him play, could Perry be a backup PG (or is he strictly a SG)?

I’ve watched him play several times I don’t see any reason he couldn’t run some point. I don’t know that it would be effective, but he could take over to spell.

Calipari needs to print this and use it when the season ends.

Great job!
If you think that will be his approach, and I know you dont..then I have some ocean front property in Arizona and I will throw the golden gate in free.

I venture Z will have next level workouts for teams. It will be very hard for a team to pass up on a legit 7’ player with easy 3pt range. Plus his passing is advanced.
If he declares for the draft he's gone he won't be able to withdraw his name , this will be his 3rd time declaring and you can only return after the first 2

If that’s all that returns we will have a backcourt that can’t win better get 2 from the portal

Need one of Sheppard or Wagner back. Fland is solid, but I think he going to need some help. I would much rather have an experienced PG running the show.

Wagner, Fland, Knox, Quaintance, and Bradshaw. I could live with that starting five with Thiero as sixth man.

Main thing is get an experienced guard back.

Knox would not start over Theiro. I’m not even sure he would start over Burks (who I think will be solid for us). Theiro I predict at least 2nd team all-SEC next year (decent chance 1st team).
But agree about the guards.

Hart had to know he wouldn't get much time his first year. He could have gone to Indiana and did the same thing he did this year, but he came here instead. Why tf would he leave. It makes no sense unless he's just absolutely unhappy here which doesn't make sense because he chose to be here in the first place.

Just like there’s no way the two best players on the team would ever come off the bench.

Signed,

Reed Sheppard

I agree with you on Thiero being very good next season. But I think he's the starting PF, or at least I hope so. He's so explosive and strong too, plus I think we know he's got some skills and those skills are improving with experience and maturity. I think that gives UK a nice advantage with Thiero at the 4, and also allows another shooter at the 3 (assuming UK wants that and will go after one).

Going to be sad if that ends up being our four returners if we don't get to a Final Four.

Would like to see Wagner, Z and Edwards come back.
Of course but why would you even give that a possibility
Edwards and Wagner are gone
Z probably aswell

You seriously have to ask why it's a possibility? All three of them could jump 15 to 25 spots in the draft with another year.

Thiero would need to be a starter. He is a better player than Bradshaw right now and he will be next year also. He would also be better than Knox. Why do people expect Adou to keep being content with a back up role?

At the time Hart signed it was still up in the air whether Antonio would be back. There was something else going on as well that made it appear that we may have had some minutes at the gaurd spot this year.

Sounds like were in trouble any way you slice it. If we are counting on the like of Bradshaw, Hart Burks and maybe Wagner and a crop of average freshmen thats gonna set us back to the last 4 years.
Yeah cause it isn't like Cal ever signs other players during the offseason including the portal. This is quite the overreaction.

I think he works on his shot this summer, and his fluidity with the ball, and becomes more a 3/4. And Burks also shows us as a 3-way scorer at the other forward. Essentially interchangeable at the 3 & 4. "Thunder & Lighting" (this coming from the person that came up with "ThReeves" last year). Both hitting 3's, both driving and finishing.
Theiro 13 pt, 8 reb, 2 blk
Burks 13 pt, 7 reb, 1 blk, 1 stl
both 35-38% from 3, & making 1.5/gm

That is why, ..... AND being 2nd round picks might get you a contract or might not, and even if it does there is a good chance you spend that first year in the G-league, maybe make it onto back end of a roster your 2nd year, maybe start contributing your 3rd year, and then you have to sign a much lesser valued ($) 2nd contract than if you had waited one more year, enter as a lottery pick and will have "climbed the ladder higher" by the time your 3rd year ends.

Why do you think he will be a back up? He's started games this season. You do know that players get better?! He's missed several games this season and though I love the kids game I don't believe it's a crime he's been a backup at times. As of late it's looked like sticking with Edwards was the correct move .

If Edwards keeps playing well, someone is going to draft him. He would be a beast next year
I know, I’d rather he keep his ascent, and keep on helping us have a better chance to go far. He may get drafted but I’d love to have a year 2. I can’t wait to see Burks develop, I think he can be a good asset down the line.

I was responding to someone who made projected a starting lineup with him NOT in it.

I'd be shocked if UK doesn't buy, ahem land at least 2 studs in the portal. Key pieces, not necessarily AA types.

I believe many would agree with you on expecting Thiero to start and be one of UK’s most important players next season. But if Bradshaw returns I think he is competing with Quaintance and Cyril at the Center position, rather than with Thiero at PF.

Or, hear me out, maybe wait until the season is over before people start obsessing over who stays and who goes?

To me, any talk which is not about winning the games ahead of them is nothing but clutter. Those who participate in it, as fun as it may be, are only contributing to this clutter.

Yea I think it’s ridiculous the way everyone looks toward the next season, it’s been a staple of the Calipari era because he’s recruiting 24/7. I get sick and tired of it.

Good imagination and a lot of facts from you, but you really can’t believe Cal would encourage a first-riunder(especially a lottery pick) to stay.
Cal cherishes the NBA draft as his greatest day. Championships be damned!
Andrew Harrison
Aaron Harrison
Terrance Jones
PJ Washington
EJ Monthomery?
Immanuel Quickley?
Isaiah Briscoe?
Dakari Johnson?
Ashton Hagans?

The % of Cal freshman returning who have a chance to be drafted, that return is pretty low. That qualifies are rare to me.
I guess around 25% of Calipari's early leavers hang around past freshman year. Good for them, but none of them owe the fanbase anything beyond playing as well as they can while they're here.

I don't think 25% is particularly rare.
