SOT SIAP: WV contemplating suing NCAA over snub

😂 what a sh*t show and I'm sure the NCAA knew it would be. Not sure they expected the state of WV to sue them though. However they should've known politicians never miss an opportunity to politicize anything.

You know what, it raises eyebrows and brings concerns to the forefront. This is exactly why I loved when Pope said he was going to study the officiating and how to play to the way they call games. Neither was going to actually work.. but instead it was about sending a message.

WVU bringing this up is the kind of thing that can make the NCAA maybe remove Bubba from the selection committee as it pertains to UNC. The NCAA knows that WVU probably won't sue (and certainly won't win anything), but they don't want to be in the press about this.

Sometimes you have to give a warning shot.

A message without accountability is piss in the wind imo.

A smart warning shot too. You say you’re going to sue one too many times without following through and people start doubting you pretty quick from what I’ve seen.

They've only "launched an investigation." The chances of a lawsuit are miniscule. The Governor just said that for effect.

What's really happening here is that WVU is demanding some transparency. And that's a worthy demand.

They should just do like D3 did and move to a formula for seeding (though D3 doesn’t officially do seeds because of geography having much greater emphasis in laying out the bracket) and at large bids.

Can’t remember how many at large bids there are but say there is 15, the 15 best teams in the formula that didn’t clinch an automatic bid make the tournament.

But it takes a lot of the excitement out of the bracket reveal since you know who all is going to be making the tournament before the selection show even starts.

However, coaches can attempt to craft their non-conference schedule to increase their chances of making the tournament because it’s all just math.

I wonder if the rank and file committee members have to sign NDAs or something similar. Cause if they don't, and there IS some type of investigation, all it takes is a couple people to let the cat out of the bag. Look, I get this is all highly doubtful. Just wondering.

Except it isn’t like FSU at all. FSU didn’t get in because they played a crap schedule, and their QB was done for the year. WV has way more wins over quality opponents than UNC does. They’re completely justified in this, IMO. You can’t tell schools quad 1 wins matter and then let in a team with one quad 1 win. This whole thing stinks of corruption, but so does everything UNC touches. Trash institution.

But they’re going to lose. Precedent got set last year when they basically told FSU to pound sand and they won that lawsuit.

This is a waste of tax payer time and money. Yes it’s unfair as hell. But there are bigger problems to deal with.
Like officials?

Yet after watching 3 of our guys get bloodied with zero fouls called. Watching 2 minutes of mugging and tackling of our players with Missouri. After UNC gets invited with one good win. People still believe there is a fair System in place at the NCAA and SEC offices. These poor officials are just so incompetent they can’t see someone hip checked to the floor. When is everyone gonna wake up and see sports are fixed for the most money. Officiating is how the leagues control games.

If something illegal was done then NDAs are invalid

The governor needs to worry more about educating his hayseed populace where they rank #49 in everything. Talking about diverting attention!

Well I’m relieved to know West Virginia has solved all its problems and is a perfect utopia, because if that’s not true this would be an incredible waste of time and money that could be better spent elsewhere.

I hope the university is suing and not the state. Missing a basketball tournament is the least of that state’s problems.

Let’s feed everyone first and ensure all homes have running water second. Then, worry about the 11 seed you so rightfully thought you deserved.

I'm just glad everyone is talking about it. Letting UNC*** in this year was the ONE thing they couldn't do (but were invariably, inevitably going to do) without looking really, really bad. They did, and they do, and they are.

The irony is that you got people like Vitale and Lunardi backpedalling on vocal support for UNC***'s inclusion into the field before selection sunday, and now that UNC*** actually got in, they want to jump in and say it was wrong. Oh so wrong. They can't have it both ways. So now they look stupid, too. WONDERFUL!

what a total hypocritical amount of BULLSHIT to have to wade thru.

I say let them catch all the hell they can get.

Everyone in the room knew Bubba's 100K$ plus bonus money for UNC*** making the tournament for this year was out there. Sitting him in the corner of the room under strict Nooneputsbabyinacorner watching him, meant NOTHING. The only conversation they should have had about UNC*** was :

"who's going to break the bad news to Bubba that he ain't getting his bonus money this year?"

but of course ..... corruption and the good ole boys political network wins in the end. Same as it ever was.

The real crappy part about this for UK is UNC leads us in all time NCAAT wins at 133-130 (thanks Cal). Them being an 11 seed gives them a great opportunity to get another win on us. Screw the Cheats. At least with Hubert there, they are no real threat to do anything significant.

The NCAA is highly abusive and is incredibly inconsistent in the way it applies its arbitrary power. It should absolutely be sued early and often.

If it’s silly to bring suit it’s sillier to assume a forgone conclusion based on a grand total one data point.
