Some NFL Cats news bits:

We are getting to the era of Stoops that we could start to see some of these filter into coaching. A few of the guys mentioned would make really good position coaches.

Do you have to have a college degree to coach in college ??

Hard to figure a lot of things that go in these choices. Snell by all stats had performed well, and he has little mileage on a mid-20s body.
However, I imagine things like his injury history as well as he would be a higher base salary because of his years in league played a part.
That last part? Bingo. The churn in the league occurs where minimum base salary starts to climb when utility is not increasing... "we can find another (cheaper) Benny Snell." If you don't make yourself indispensable, you find you are not.

The NFL salary scale gets really complex after year 4, and seems to be based on the average salaries of the top 30 players in a position. In Snells case going into year 5 that would have been close to 5 million. Pretty big money when you could get a rookie for your 4th string back at 750 thousand.
That salary scale is likely why we see the majority of players waived after three or 4 years when their contracts run out. Average NFL career is under 4 years unless you are a proven commodity. Bad luck, bad team, injuries, whatever....Bennie Snell hasn't proved he is worth it.
