Some guys we ‘hate to lose ‘ could’ve been asked to move along

It’s known that a lazy , entitled culture has crept up in the program …confirmed by Matt Jones by staff and admin sources. The whole vibe changed , and a few players were heavy contributors. Don’t know for sure who , but we don’t know who were the worst offenders. Whoever they were , they need to move on. When we see portal entries, we don’t know conversations that were had with them the last few days. We all hated to lose ultra talented Rashad Carruth in basketball years ago…and many under Cal

I’d be cool with Maclin, Gilmore , the 2 talented freshmen speedsters and 2 vets from the portal …maybe one with some height and more of a ‘possession’ type….to round out the WR room . Maybe Wilcox or Trayunum can be short pass catchers out of the backfield….not sure of their abilities there

Not surprised if Brown was a locker room cancer. Key would be a surprise for me
Didn't necessarily mean locker room cancer, though I think Brown may have been. Just he made the comment about having no leadership or lacking of it, and then turned course once the top two targets left.

Thought it was interesting Maclin was gonna leave then when Key and Brown left he decides to stay.
There’s a reason Brown never got any better at WR , playing as much as he wanted . WR takes personal film days , after film days , drills and stuff you do when coaches aren’t coaching sets the best apart .
I could see Key getting comfortable with his money , and maybe he just always knew he’d give ‘free agency’ a try his last yr of college and slacked and let intensity slip

Think Farrier can return too. He was a 500 yd guy in '23, never had much of a chance in '24. Could possibly make a contribution in '25. Odd man out I'd think would be Brandon White.

Brown never worked on gaining strength, that's why he had trouble getting separation from DBs. Lack of strength in his hands also contributed to his drops. Don't forget the guy barely tipped the scales at 160 pounds when he arrived.

Yes , it always seemed he was mismatched physically and probably caught less than 20% of 50/50 type balls . Ole Miss late in game was one 50/50 ‘go route’ type action he actually got

The question is, are the people who allowed this "bad culture" to creep into the program leaving.

I mean what came first the chicken or the egg, know what I mean.
The assistant turnover contributed I’d say . You’re a coordinator but only have a guy for one year and no offseason..it’s not like you’re gonna accuse anyone of bad attitudes as you’re packing up and leaving

This right here! This isn’t merely just a “player” issue per se. All of this falls on our coaching staff and Stoops is the head of the snake. It would no doubt be better if he would move on but since Mitch has handcuffed us once again to a coach….where to now?

The staff (mostly offense ) was turning over way too much for any policing of players , determining attitudes and growth , etc. Many coaches never had a full offseason. You don’t see all that many issues with defensive players , because that side had had continuity. For most of this season , injuries on our defense were mind boggling..that was the biggest issue .
When you let an OC go , OL coach go or a coach just leaves like WR…it’s not like they’re going to take shots while out the door calling guys out for effort , attitude etc. . You’d kill your career

Money will do that to you. Maclin’s worth and NIL value skyrocketed when both Brown and Key left. I wouldn’t be surprised if those two leaving double or tripled his NIL deal overnight.

Brown was fun to watch on ST. The guy is lightning fast and may set the world on fire at another SEC school next year.

But … to your point he always seemed to go down at first contact. I imagined him in yr 2 & 3 as being able to take the quick screen or slant to the house. That usually requires breaking at least the initial tackle. BB was perfect guy for GO routes and ST, but his lack of strength combined with average route running caused him to be just an average receiver. I wish him the best, but we had to reallocate NIL $ to other positions. Some SEC team with unlimited NIL will throw him a lot of $ because of his potential.

I think back to michael irvin stories in which he would run routes ALL by himself until he literally heaved. Amazing

doubt he gets any sort of freakish NIL, tho he will get paid . I think he ends up a #3 receiver on a decent team…like an Ole Miss, etc….and is picked up as much for his return game . I think there’s a chance he and UK parting ways was fairly mutual . No telling how much NIL he and Key free up for UK
