I know the popular thing to do is pile on Towles, which Im ok with for the sake of discussion but why is there such little talk of how our offensive line notably a senior and a freshman were taken advantage of. The freshman you can understand but the senior...wow
On to Towles I understand his struggles and the calls for Barker but QB is a leadership position and you must have the team behind your QB. What if the team isn't all in so to speak with Barker. Barker isn't real innocent in this whole scenario either it's not like he has given the coaches much reason to trust him. With that said
Does Barker influence Dawson to change his play calling? I don't think so I seem to think there is more of a power struggle between Stoops and Dawson on the offensive side. Dawson wants to play quick big plays etc and Stoops understands the importance of ball control. They need to find an identity and balance
Does Barker influence the line to block better? No, but he may look to run more and make the defense have to account for him. Basically make something out of nothing.
Does Barker influence receivers to make open catches? No, but I think that will improve through the season for whomever the QB is
Does Barker handle the pressure and have the ability to make all the throws? Who knows? Some may argue you won't know until you try or you are already playing with someone who isn't making throws. While others may say coaches see much more than we do in practice and it will come or that it's a head game you have a tendency to rush and not use proper mechanics or reads when constantly under pressure.
But at the end of the day...
We are a young football team I think we start one senior on offense and we are going to improve. We weren't even favored in the game with UF and we were all up for the game. We are moving in the right direction and we all knew losses were going to happen. No one was expecting an undefeated season so as a fan stay the course stay with this team but enjoy that we have a developing football team something that we haven't had in many many years
