So Max Green is officially in the transfer portal

So perry and Noah are gonna just accept not playing at all next season? Delusional.
THIS is WHY I keep saying that we will NOT fill 15 scholarships, anything over 12 would be very difficult. Because it's tough to get minutes even for the 11th & 12th men (unless you have injuries). This year Michigan ST has gone 10 deep all playing 13+mpg, but the 11th man 55min all season.

I'm sure both Perry and Noah have played more this year than they expected to. And they both know why (injuries). Noah has had his moments, but he's also had some 0's across the board games. Perry has had a few moments too. I think they both surely can recognize they aren't there yet, able to be consistent key contributors to a championship level team. So the question both will have to ask themselves, "do I move on to a lower level school where I think I can be one of the main guys; OR do I stick to my original plan and keep working and getting better so that by my JR and SR years I am a key contributor to a championship level team, the team I've dreamed of playing for since I was a kid?".

There are some players out there who would give their left testicle just to practice with UK. So I know there are guys who will sit and watch for a season or two but this guy idk

Does he want to play 10 to 15 minutes here, because that's what he would be, a role player who comes off the bench.

Pope is going to land two dynamic guards to replace Butler and Brea. He already has his Robinson/Kerr replacements in Johnson and Lewis.

G - Portal - Lewis - Perry
G - Portal - Johnson - Chandler
F - Oweh - Chandler - Noah
F - Portal - Portal
C - Portal - Garrison - Moreno

Where would Green fit in?

Reminder that kids that transfer are looking for one of two things. If not both.

1. Pay Day
2. Playing Time

A lot of you are asking this kid to come ride the pine.
They also want a big stage to show off their skills and hopefully compete for playing time. We don’t know how good or bad the kid is maybe he’s the next Rex Chapman. Staff will put together a quality squad for next year.

It also doesn’t make sense from an NIL perspective either. Save your money. If they are underclasses who need to develop, they will be there next year.

An interesting thing I didn't know until a recent conversation with the parent of someone about to enter the portal: when a kid negotiates NIL dollars, it doesn't end with that, there is also a negotiation about minutes as well. Which eventually usually/sometimes/aways (??) ends up in the contract.

Which is a mess. Can't imagine a coach trying to manage all that. The money is one thing - but the minutes? So you take a kid who you think is good enough to play, and say it turns out he isn't (like the Belmont kid who transferred to Carolina and was a bust). You've guaranteed a certain amount of minutes. But you can't play him. Now what? From a contractual standpoint, you've broken the contract....and there are presumably penalties (money) that go with that. OK, so you just added to the amount of money you are paying to a kid who you now know isn't good enough to play for you, or good enough to play as much as you thought. No wonder the older coaches are bailing out....

Matt Jones just stated to keep our eyes on this kid. Which, to me, basically says he will be a Wildcat.
Like I said if the staff believes he can play at this level then fine but we already have two guys similar to him. We need to upgrade more talent and athleticism. I know we will recruit players to our style but I would like to add a little more rebounding and natural defensive players with athleticism.

Players good enough to get significant minutes (10-15+) at another P5 school?
I'm not so sure about that.

Most of these guys don’t have contracts and I guarantee a lot of top schools say you will get paid but how many minutes you get us up to coach and coach only.

Who says you need to?

It used to be quite common for teams to have scholarship players that hardly ever touched the floor. They were there for practice help and bench depth …a deal they accepted … and coaches felt no pressure to make sure they got some minutes too.

Is that sort of arrangement no longer acceptable?

I know those minute promises are obviously happening, but I think that’s absolutely crazy if they’re putting that term in contractual form. So will we soon be seeing breach of contract lawsuits for insufficient minutes?

Today’s version of this sport is utterly unrecognizable from the one that made me a fan. They might as well give it a new name.

Right. Wild wild west. Reminds me of the old Bobby Jones quote about a young Jack Nicklaus: "He plays a game with which I am not familiar." Definitely not the old days. Like I tried to insinuate in that post, I know this kid intends to get minutes into the contract as a term (or at least that's how I took it), but I don't know how common that is (it must not be unheard of, or his agent wouldn't be pushing it, you'd think). And I don't think we're likely to see breach suits....you'd just have the penalties set forth in the contract. You're guaranteed X minutes. If you only play Y minutes, the school owes you this much extra beyond NIL. If you only play Z minutes, the school owes you this much extra. Which is something to bear in mind as folks talk about NIL budgets - you have $millions to cover all your players, but you also have to allow for some 'extra' payments for kids that don't pan out. Anyway, I think all of this is going to have to be regulated at some point. Surely the wild wild west can't last forever.......

They don't have a written contract.
If they did the Florida St players wouldn't be suing and they will probably lose.
Several football players have left their school over NIL not as promised.
It's a verbal contract .

they don't usually have a written contract, or they never have a written contract?

Calling a big ole BS on this. There is NO WAY coaches are going to negotiate minutes.. NONE...

I cannot imagine that would apply to every player. In fact I bet it’s very few. Coaches would go crazy trying to honor that shit and more times than not it would be to the detriment of the team.

yeah, I understand the skepticism about the story I told. I can't vouch for it. I will say I don't think the person was lying. But, one, I could have misunderstood parts of it, and two, even if I got the story exactly right, I don't know how common any of it is.

Edit: by the way, I want to make clear - since this is a thread about Max Green - the story I told above about the parent of the kid about to enter the portal, that wasn't Max.
