So, 6 of our 11 losses in ‘24/25 were to Sweet 16 teams.

All the more amazing that we are one of the 16.

There are some odd, hidden records, here.

I’ll assume the majority of all losses suffered by Sweet 16 teams came against SEC teams. I suspect that is a first, unless the ACC pulled that off the year they had 6 teams in the S/16.

We beat Duke early, and I think Bama and Auburn both beat Houston, early.

If someone had the time, it would be interesting to see just how many losses suffered by the combined Sweet 16 teams were to SEC teams.

If I did the math right (I did this on the fly, correct me if I am wrong):

10 games against Sweet Sixteen teams.

24 games against NCAA tournament teams (counting Troy and Illinois).

15-9 record against NCAA tournament teams this year. 4-6 against Sweet Sixteen.

This season had to be against the toughest competition we have ever played against.

Here's another record to discuss--non UK or SEC:

Big Ten has beaten one seed in the '25 Tournament that is higher than a 10 seed and that was Michigan beating Texas A&M because Buzz Williams and Wade Taylor IV don't understand the object of the game is to make baskets and not foul/fall on the ground/leap into people hoping for fouls. When Taylor IV was out of the game-Aggies were better offensively and at one point were kicking the snot out of Michigan by simply playing basketball-but Buzz can't stand that--so he reverted to foul every possession and slow the game down.

Think of that stat though. The Media Darling's league had 8 teams in....bragged about being 10-0 at one point in the Tournament but it was never mentioned WHO they were beating. Aggies were also the only team higher than 39 in KenPom for the Analytic driven fans that Big Ten has beaten in this Tournament to this point.

Non-conference teams with SEC losses
Damn!

That’s good work!!

I will recount (and edit by 10:00 pm) but it looks like the Sweet 16 combined for 140 total losses, with 59 of those 140 against SEC teams.

That is 42.1 percent of total losses to SEC teams?!?!?

Something that should frighten other teams and conferences: the seven SEC teams in the Sweet 16 had SEC losses to teams that did not make the tourney, or barely made it.

Again, that number, 42.1 percent must be a record, but I will not hold my breath waiting for the national media to bring it up!!

Yup it just shows how much we were hurt, but also the tough schedule we faced. Remarkable year all things considered,

Pope did such a remarkable job his first year with all the injuries and winning with our strength of schedule!
He did, and this mini run we are on shows what he can do here. We have looked more locked in these last 2 games than even I expected. I hope we keep it up. I really wanna play an elite 8 game again. Maybe we get hot and make a final 4. That would be so amazing and a dream start for Pope.
