Just great tv, man.
I remember in the SEC Tournament championship game in Nashville, Barkley and Turpin were going at it all game.Back in the day, Mel Turpin said about Charles Barkley, "He has a lot of loose lip!" My wife and I have always referred to him as "Loose Lips" since that time. He is a true treasure on that show.
He really is. There was an ESPN story a while back about Ernie and his family and the care he provided for his son and their relationship. I'm not the most emotional guy in the world, but man, it was heartwarming and heartbreaking all at the same time. They are great. I think Ernie Johnson is the best in sports in that type of role and an even better human being.
Was about to post same thing. That '84 Tournament was my 1st SEC Tourney. Still remember Big Mel saying that to Charles at FT line then after Sky Walker hit winning shot Barkley sitting on the floor crying... l really like BarkleyI remember in the SEC Tournament championship game in Nashville, Barkley and Turpin were going at it all game.
Turpin was at the line late in the very close game. He received the ball from the ref, dribbled a couple times, and then while super quiet in the gym, said "Hey Barkley, eat S*it!" before sinking the free throw.
I've watched that a few times. For some reason, someone is always cutting onions in the room with me when I watch it.He really is. There was an ESPN story a while back about Ernie and his family and the care he provided for his son and their relationship. I'm not the most emotional guy in the world, but man, it was heartwarming and heartbreaking all at the same time.
