Silver says, NBA looking at impact of too many 3’s

I'm just shocked this NBA post and the other one(s) have gotten this many replies on a UK COLLEGE basketball board. Actually, I'm more shocked that anybody cares about the NBA at this point. It's gotten to be less interesting than baseball and that's saying a lot.

I'll throw my own crazy idea in. Get rid of the game clock and play to a set score. Or do the Elam ending.

Load management crap has to be fixed, also. How to do that I'm not sure.

Shorten the season? Less back to backs? I think the only motivation for lazy people is money, but I'm not sure how that could tie in.

I’d also say the league should be very careful about treading into the waters of partisan politics. I had been NBA league pass viewer for three straight seasons and they really did themselves no favors on a few things. Then, they lost me as a viewer for about two years. Even now, I’m far more casual than I was
An answer for the political thing and the 3-point thing in the OP....force the NBA to actually embrace DEI. Add women (merge in the WNBA) and make the league mirror the actual demo of the country. We need more Asian and Hispanic point guards. The NBA certainly cannot be hypocrites can they? Also will improve pay for the WNBA by integrating them into the NBA. Win Win. No more 3's and lots of layups.

The game will never be the same, it can't until its popularity falls to the point contracts shrink drastically. Too many premadonnas and too fast paste with all the 3s. As far as I'm concerned, the league has got their come up ins from their off fence focused rule changes. I don't know about y'all but I can't mustard the desire to watch a single game anymore. The sport really went to hell in a ham basket.
Quality work

I don't think it has anything to do with 3's. It has more to do:

1. Making the game fake with all the lights, colors, & a floor that does not look like a basketball floor..seems like a circus & has lost the feeling of a basketball game.

2. No one plays hard until the 4th quarter & the playoffs. Shorten the freaking season.

3. Quit paying guys $300,000,000 contracts. These guys think they're kings.

4. Quit raising ticket prices & making games pay per view. Inflation is real & people ain't doing that crap.

Why in the world they think it has to do with 3's is beyond me & is probably why it's dying. They're discernment meter is broken. It's basketball not football.
Well Said!!!

So Adam Silver has recently said that the league is looking at how the game has been affected by teams increasing their volume of 3’s. Look no further than Boston C’s…

I have a crazy message board solution to this problem. Make any basket assisted from beyond half court worth an extra point. 3’s & 2’s become 4’s & 3’s. Max 3 free throws.
Interesting stats I saw yesterday. There are over 5100 Men’s D-1 players. Only 135 are shooting over 35% from three. I am sure there is a certain number of attempts this is based on. There is far too much reliance on the three and not mid range and and elbow jumpers.

I love how much media attention this news has gotten. I've been on record saying the league has been trash for 5-7 years now.

Think maybe I saw it earlier than everyone else or people didn't realize how bad it got.

NBA needs a major shake up or the ratings will continue to falter.. honestly China is holding their a** up right now.

I love basketball, I don't give af about politics and I am a huge fan of dozens of NBA players (former Cats).....but I'd still rather just throw on a rerun of King of Queens before watching a game. Not sure exactly why but just not interested in watching at all.

I remember those quite well. I do think there was a time when too much physicality was allowed. Not good either. There has to be a balance.
Handchecking was THE REASON. When that went away, scoring increased. You bring that back, you are pounding the final nail in the coffin. Fans won't watch 15 point quarters.

I think it’s a combination of currently it seems to be a shooting contest instead of basketball. Also I think the one and done has hurt viewership because the don’t develop the same connections with fans. You don’t watch the players grow up and feel like your a part of their journey as much. So I think the NBA has it self to blame by drafting kids on potential instead of older college players that are ready to contribute. You still take the kids that are immediate impact guys but stop drafting and sending to g league. Send them back to college and hold their rights.
You obviously didn't watch the 80s NBA. Guys could flat SHOOT back then. And Magic Johnson left college after year 2.

The problem with the NBA right now is the PRICE of TICKETS and the exclusivity of TV contracts. The fixing of the games by the refs doesn't help things either.
