SIAP: Kentucky has Reached Out to Efton Reid

I'm not sure how I feel about having two guys with the name Reid, one a first name and one a last name, within three seasons of each other.

Reid has 25+ offers and until yesterday UK had never spoken to him.

Do we really think Cal can a) get him to all of a sudden reclass, b) suddenly decide he is going to pick a school soon, and c)have that decision be UK?

I highly doubt it.

Not anymore I don't.Cal 2010-15 could have pulled off a miracle.

Missed on the last guy, move on to another guy to distract from the last done deal.

rinse, repeat

This screams of desperation. Trying to get a 4 star C to reclass after striking out time after time. Jackson and Ware will be good in time, if they stick around, but they probably won't help much next year. Both are too raw on offense and Jackson is thinner than EJ.

This is the problem with Cal's OAD model. We are at the mercy of how good the HS class is and this class was not very good at the 5 spot. And instead of us signing a 3 or 4 star a couple of years ago and trying to develop them and having time in our system, we are looking for a reclass or transfer from a mid major. The reclass will work if it's Banchero or Kuminga, even though he doesn't help our weakness at the 5 but he, teamed up with Clarke and Boston, may be good enough to cover up that ugly wart.

And yet we have many on here saying we don't need a shake up on the coaching staff. Hope those guys enjoy an E8 ceiling because that's where we've been most of the last 5 years. 2017 is the only team in that group that had a shot at a title.

The article states, But seeing how KY reached out to Reid on the same day it became evident Matt Haarms wasn't coming to Lexington is a bit suspicious.

Unless the 3 or 4 star is from KY then they aren't sticking around. That level of player is constantly looking over their shoulder at the next group of freshmen coming in. It's almost impossible for UK to have any roster turnover the way things stand.

They had spoken with Reid prior to yesterday but it was in the Fall, but preferred other options (no matter if it was reclass or '21). The fact this came up again....I don't take as a good sign at all no matter when it would take place.

He's skinnier than EJ. How'd that work out?

I don't think EJ's body stats were his problem. Like some we have seen in the past he would disappear or make really bad fouls sometimes. Plus even though he had spots he really wasn't that hustle type guy most of the season. I actually thought he was beginning to get it at the end of the season though.

Sorry, but I won’t hit the panic button until the end of June or July.

This offseason just started. It just seems like it’s almost over because the season was shortened.

Think about it, kids (college and HS) are still in school for another few weeks.

I’m sure some are still deciding what to do.

We should probably wait until June at the earliest before we start to panic about the roster.

I doubt Cal is finished

From what we know about Jackson he plays in the post, he does a take a three every now and then but for the most part he’s in the post. EJ in high school thought he was a big guard, shooting threes and doing things guards would do.
Now taking EJ was a desperate move since Cal was looking for big guys and EJ was the highest ranked uncommitted player. But that’s history now and time to move on. Jackson will be fine in time.

And he decommitted from Aubarn to sign with us so that was a plus.

for those that can not handle a little adversity
you should probably stop following recruiting and just wait until the season starts and the roster is set

My point was that IJ is even thinner than EJ and EJ wanted no part of playing in the paint or getting tough rebounds. A lot of that probably was EJ's passive, dare I say lazy demeanor? Granted, IJ is slotted for the 5 whereas EJ was always a 4 so maybe IJ will be effective as a slender 5.

Unless we pull a rabbit out of a hat, Jackson will need to be ready in November.

I see your point but don't you think its the mental state of a player sometimes that is important. EJ was hellbent on being a stretch anything but if IJ is mentally ready to be an inside player we know that rebounding can be all about effort. And yes he needs to be ready quickly.

Unless it is a really big and mean rabbit Jackson,Ware and everybody else will have to be ready to play big minutes from day 1.

I enjoy your pessimistic attitude. You are so good at it. Please go back to your mommy's basement.

For the love of god will y’all stop the damn name puns. They’re awful, have been awful for the past 2 weeks and will continue to be awful. The number of posters who are actually funny here is very slim.
You are the funny one. Glad you finally came out of you mommy's basement

I don't know the status or roster of every team next year in CBB, but are there teams with dominant big men? Asking for real.
Cal believes a team must have a post presence or they are frauds. Unless Ware or Jackson can be one, next year's team will be one according to him.
They have to find one and get one somewhere some way. If this kid can be one, get him. I don't care if he's plan Z. Just get one.
