SI Compliments Self on Transfers

He references Kentucky and makes no sense. Saying that unlike Kentucky, Kansas doesn't roll out the same type of team every year.

Cal, as much or more than anyone, morphs style of play to his ever changing personnel.

ku most certinaly does. Always have 4 or more upper class guys that are the fixture of the team with 1-2 FR. whatevs, chokehawks all day...

Oh yes, he does. Self rolls out the kind of team that wins the Big 12 regular season title but can't do much else afterward.

Amazing how people try and throw shade at UK. They just cant keep us out their mouth.

He works transfers like the waiver wire. Plus, how many NCAA coaches have a Seed Loss Bingo Game created for them. AS for the media, good ol' Bill has been known to tip a few with reporters during the summer recruiting circuit, while Cal and Co. keep to themselves.

I swear Self must have something on almost every sports journalist. There seems to be a never-ending flow of pro-Self/pro-KU articles during every off-season.

I've spoken with a few people I know about this. Parrish says Self is a super great guy, and people just love him. Friend of mine who coached Melrose, a high school in Memphis, told me a few years back the same. He actually has taken several trips with Bill Self to some clinics.

THe only other guy I've ever heard talked about with such high remarks is Matta.

Might have something to do with it. And he's not Cal and UK, so, He's a good guy I guess.

If UK & Coach Calipari was taking transfers like Kansas does. They ( SI ) would probably write a garbage hit piece about how Cal & UK is raiding other teams of it's best players. And how bad that is for college basketball.

You can't deny Self's accomplishment in his league and Kansas has done OK in the tourney, but nothing special.

For me the point of the article should have been that college basketball for the elite teams is all about recruiting. Kentucky has its success by getting elite high school players and Kansas by stealing players from other programs :)

Seriously, it is all about getting the elite players and how long they stay. Teams that have won the National Championship have all had some senior or experienced leadership. But, that leadership has to be combined with elite talent. How you get that talent is what it is all about.

He must love those Hooters wings.

This. It's been mentioned several times by a certain radio show that Self takes all of these reporters out to hooter's. In turn, he's never criticized by media. If Calipari had half the off the court problems as Self, it would be headlines. Fact.

I don't get the love fest for self. He builds his team around transfers because he doesn't have success with elite talent but it's literally the same thing. He is a stockpiler with his rosters but they never work out

Meh.. it's Kansas. Another weak class, another conference that doesn't care to test them, and another early round flameout. I used to be worried about them.. back in the days of Aldrich, Collins.. the Morris twins.. etc. But it's literally clockwork at this point. You know what's going to happen, you know how it'll go.

I'm more concerned with keeping up our absurdly good recruiting, the arms race between us and Duke, UNC getting punished/not repeating, how the SEC continues to improve. Kansas just is a minor threat at this point. If it weren't for their fans, arguably the worst in college, I'd probably be rooting for Kansas. You kind of feel for them..

Squirrelhead can't recruit so he is forced to take transfers. The corrupt ways of the Big 12 coupled with the idiot media has created the false narrative that he is one of the best around.

Ok? I guess. They've played to seed 3x in 15 years. That's not even getting into their embarrassing losses.

Even this year, they were blown out.

Anything goes with Self, rape, assault , drugs etc. just as long as he wins the big 12 or 14 or whatever it is .

It simply shows that those people, consciously or unconsciously, recognize that UK is the gold standard for college basketball and use us as a measuring stick for the others.
