It has been a long time since Kentucky has had a guard who can do everything. Well fans, we have one now. Shep played like a senior against Canada. Right now, he is easily the best all-around player on the team. His game is so easy. He is like the Venus Flytrap of basketball. He has the uncanny ability to lure his opponent into thinking it is safe to dribble or shoot just before he steals the ball or blocks their shots. THE KID IS IMPRESSIVE!!!

Sorry for starting a second thread on this, but I was so excited about what I saw that I didn't take the time to see what had already been posted. To be honest, the kid is deserving of multiple threads. Lol. He is exactly what Kentucky fans have been looking for.

Always thought he could play here(many didn't because was white and a Ky kid), but Cal has kids that have been promised, and expecting, to get in and out asap... so unless CCC has changed , Sheppard will have to really shine to get the rope these others will get.

Cal hasn’t promised anything to any player. Never has.

And you can’t find even one former player that says he was promised anything.

It’s just a flat out lie to claim otherwise.

I love Reed and his game but let's not get too carried away. Comparing him to an experienced senior after two exhibition games? I think that's putting too much pressure on the kid. As I said, I love his game and do feel he is much better than his ranking but let's wait to see how he does against real competition with some well seasoned college players. Hooe I'm very wrong in believing hell have some ups and downs and that he turns out to be all the OP says during his freshman season. If he does, he may just decide to jump to NBA after one season too.

Cal likes parading in front of cameras on NBA draft and if he believes Shep will provide him that opportunity he will gladly make Shep the poster child for UK basketball. If I am not mistaking, Shep was once a 5-star player and he demonstrated why he was and why he should be now.

There is more to basketball than running up and down the court out of control. He is a setup guy for his teammates with the ability to score himself when necessary. He is the prototypical point guard who can make those around him better players. We stumbled a bit coming out of the blocks during the second half because the ball spent too much time on the opposite side of the court from Shep.

He does a lot of those intangibles we've been missing as of late.

Missed almost every shot he took in that Germany game, but yet his defense and disruption were big factors.

Daddy taught him what it means to wear that jersey and it shows on the court.

There is nothing wrong with praising the kid for outstand play. I can assure you there will be no waiting to criticize him if he screws up. My eyes didn't lie to me about what I saw him doing. The others were playing against the same players Shep was and they were able to do it, so it obviously wasn't an easy thing to accomplish. He became Canada's defensive focus in the second half and they still weren't able to stop him because he is smart enough to take what the defensive gives him without forcing anything.

Dillingham was playing like a freshman which is to be expected and Shep was clearly playing at a higher level. Also, pressure is following in your father's footsteps knowing that you will be compared to his excellent play. So, I think the kid is more than capable of handling the pressure of UK basketball.

Agree. He has looked good. But it's way early to get too carried away..

I never imagine Shep was this good he makes things look easy, no panic he just does everything so well he shoots good, plays great D handles the ball well and great passer.

I have zero problem with praise. I just thought saying he is as good as or plays like an experienced senior was a bit too much praise at this early stage. That's all. I did state, repeatedly, that I thought he was very good and even much better than his ranking so I did agree with you on numerous points.

Every single year, it’s the same thing. People gush over a player and/or the team after some meaningless early-season game. Never fails.

Shep Jr. might be an All American this year, or he might be a non-contributor. Regardless, it can’t be determined because he blocked a shot, chased down the ball and then dunked it against a bunch of Canadian dudes.

I mean, c’mon man!

He bad!

I agree. Love him and happy he's on our team. He played really well these first two games and I think he deserves recognition for it. But, let's be fair to the kid and not put him on a pedestal just yet. These are just tune up games in July, too soon to take much away from it yet. I still remember Bahamas last summer and how terrific the whole team looked and then we played real teams. I think Reed has great promise but let's give him time and a real chance.

Surely, you realize that you are greatly understating what he did in the game and if that is your thing, have fun with it. However, if it was so easy, why didn't the others do it?

Being a senior doesn't suggest that you have the skills to play the game at a high level; however, it does suggest that you should have the wisdom to play within your abilities and to not attempt things that you are incapable of doing which is exactly what Shep did.

No player ever is on record anywhere saying Cal promised them anything. in fact, they say the opposite.

You said "Sheppard will have to really shine to get the rope others will get" you do know that Cal started him the next game after he made literally 0 shots.....

Your whole narrative is a complete fabrication

You do realize that Cal rewards players who shine on defense and that is exactly what Shep did which is why he received more playing time.

Yes I agree.

I was disagreeing with the other poster that was clearly saying that Cal somehow had favoritism for other players and not Reed.

He doesn't. He will give him a fair shake

I Never believe the hype about any player. But you can watch Sheppard and tell he has basketball skill and athleticism. Cal finally has a team of high level basketball players- instead of some great athletes that happen to play basketball. And I like he hasn’t micromanaged the game, yelling and screaming while being a control freak. Let the kids play and stay the hell out of the way.

Why am I quoted about not playing good defense and deserving more playing time? I said no such thing. I believe you are upset with me about disagreeing on comparing him to a senior already. Difference of opinion but don't link me with something I never said.

Yeah he replied to me too with that when I was clearly addressing a comment about favoritism from another poster.

You are giving yourself way too much credit. Your opinion carries no more weight than any other poster. It is simply your opinion which you are entitled to. You seem to be the one who has an issue with being quoted. If you don't want to be quoted the solution is to not post.

I thought maybe you were OK, but you are really showing yourself as a real piece of work. You, sir, quoted me. If you quote someone at least have a real purpose in doing so. Again, I said absolutely nothing about the topic you are quoting me on. How does that mean I should not post? You make no sense at all. Wow!

Cal has a well-established history of showing favoritism which is exactly the reason why Adou didn't get more of Livingston's minutes last season.
Didn't you just tell me like three posts ago that Cal rewards "players that shine on defense?" And now you are saying he plays favorites???

Which is it?

This LMD guy makes no sense at all. Makes me wonder if he is drinking or something else. Ripped me just now and told me I shouldn't post if I don't want to be quoted by him. Yet, what he quoted me on had nothing to do with what he was saying. Guy is just weird.

It is clear that you only want to argue.
