Asked about in another thread but no response. Didn't this QB transfer in? A dual threat out of high school that took over for injured starter at Dayton and led them to a 5-1 record while playing well. Led team in high school to three state championships. Any of this wrong or can be expanded upon?

I saw this on Twitter last night. Don't know much about him, but I met Shane and his dad several years ago while he was in high school. Great people. I think he shores up the QB room and backup QB ranks pretty well.

Looks like from the outside he has at least two things that could be good. Being a dual threat he should be a decent runner and the way he led his high school team and Dayton the last six games his leadership and decision making must be pretty good. Just leaves can he do it on the SEC level surrounded by pro type players and does he have a good arm?

5'11", 56% and 6 Td / 4Int over 7 games playing at FBS level. I guess some depth is nice but really doesn't look like the kind of player we want to have to rely on in the SEC.

Agreed. I hate to speculate but this makes me think the coaching staff knows that one of our current backups is planning to transfer.

These are the same accolades Wade came in with. Better start preparing this offense for the kid at LCC or they'll have no shot at him...did a little research and this one is a head scratcher.

I'm a sports journalist in the area he went to High School. Many of us probably could have led those teams to a state championship as they are a private-school dynasty that runs it about 60 times per game with the best RBs in Ohio and typically the best TEs in Northeast Ohio. He wasn't asked to do much and there were reasons for that.
However, with that being said, he does seem to be a great teammate and was not a pouty, me-first locker room cancer.

Doesn't sound like Dayton threw the ball much. 112 attempts in 7 games is 16 pass attempts per game. He had 426 yards rushing in those seven games too, which equates to 60 yards a game which is a nice number for a QB. From what I read, he's a hard worker, a natural leader and wants to play at the highest level. I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt and say Dayton wasn't the best fit for him. Hopefully he's a better passer than the numbers indicate. I like to think he's being brought in for depth with a chance to compete after Leary leaves.

Stoops ought to look at the Bulleit East QB if he wants a good backup. 6’2 and 200 lbs and great numbers last year. Stoops won’t play him anyway and that might prevent the kid from coming if offered but he is good.

Kinda small in this day and age, have to think he's a PWO.

#2 now. Goodbye Sheron and Wade. Hogan gets the clipboard.
Wade started the MCB. He and his brother aren't leaving. Your comment to the contrary is not fact based. I have no idea what Sheron will do, but that is not going to be critical for the program either way.

Hey true...what's the nephew doing?

Haven’t heard much since I saw him for Christmas. I think they are taking their time and seeing what comes along before the Feb signing period. It’s a dead period now so he has to initiate any contact. Cincinnati is showing more interest.

Wade is a project. Many are wayyyy too critical of him as a true frosh. He might not look ready after Spring '24. If so, he's an athletic flex TE/H back, right?

But it won’t matter how good he is as a quarterback because the grass in the portal will always look greener, Stoops plays one guy, and Wade won’t get any beneficial snaps to get a shot. Ask Beau, ask Gunnar, ask Sheron, ask all the quarterbacks that have signed here only to sit and watch. It’s a horrible cycle that won’t change as long as Stoops is here.

That is the biggest gripe I have with Stoops, he won't play a back-up QB when he can.
There are few opportunities because we are usually trying to pull out a win vs an SEC team. There are times when a back- up could get some run with the 1's

Never to support lil brother but back in John L Smiths days there and early Petrino they would always give the backup two series a half, ahead or behind. It was a good system and both quarterbacks were always ready to play. We should do that here

I think you have a much better chance at the QB position in this league if they can run like say a Travis or Young. Quick and really good feel of when to run. Without that your offense is just not going to be as good as it could be.

Hamm is not being brought in to play. Let's not confuse him with Leary. Hamm is a depth piece, like Hogan. This just adds another player to the room. Nothing wrong with it, but I doubt Hamm has a scholarship in 2023.

My point is that if Leary gets hurt at any point, needing a guy like Hamm for depth is a bad sign. Having Hogan didn't do us any good this year when Levis was hurt.

I don’t know about a lot of you guys, but I want to keep Sheron. I think he has a ton of potential and some good size, he has worked hard the last couple years on his body and game and I hope he keeps living his dream here. I absolutely don’t want anyone to get hurt and always want to give Kentucky the best chance to win a game, I think if needed, he can help us. Football is a very tough game and injuries happen every year so stay patient and keep working hard. Never know when that chance comes.

Unfortunately some here apply the basketball litmus test to football players....if you're not a superstar lottery pick by your first game you're a bum. Takes time to develop a college QB.

I hope he stays too but that damn portal will be there and always providing greener grass for these coaches to want.

I hear u. You can see a huge difference in the young man from month to month so he’s working his tail off for sure. He’s getting close to being ready I think. Just hope it’s here. He has put in the time to deserve a chance if it comes.
