Shai having an MVP season. OKC only a game behind the Cavs, who started 15-0, for the best record in the league. Already 7 games up in the west too.
Add Calipari and any tournament loss is possible…SGA, PJ Washington, Kevin Knox…K State.
Was a bad loss at the time. Hard to fathom in retrospect.

2015 was the first. I understand it was the final 4 and Wisconsin was a top team, but that 2015 team was significantly above college level. Damn near an NBA team playing in college.Easy to see now. But Cal had been riding quite a wave. That was the first loss that made absolutely no sense.
The one thing I'll always be grateful to Calipari for was that he stocked our NBA pipeline like no other. Dominating the NBA with superstar-level players was really the only thing we were lacking in our incredible history as a program.

Wall, Cousins, Bledsoe, Patterson...WVU
Towns, Booker, Harrison twins, WCS...Wisconsin
Fox, Monk, Bam...UNC
Keldon, Herro, PJ, Travis...Auburn
Counting the KSU loss with SGA, there's about ten max NBA players in those games for UK while the opponents had none.
Calipari's era here was one of the weakest outputs of superior talent in college history.
SGA is a boss, his game gets better every year.

Poor kid can’t stay healthy. He is so good.Oh and btw, the Thunder are doing this without Chet Holmgren. Who has been out with a broken pelvic bone since November 10th.
As much as I was ready for Cal to move on... He does deserve credit for taking 4 star talent like SGA and Herro and turning them into NBA lotto picks.
His downfall at UK was hyper-focusing on individual skills improvement over team accomplishments.
That's why he lives in Fayetteville now.
Easy to see now. But Cal had been riding quite a wave. That was the first loss that made absolutely no sense.
I think if you asked the former players and NBA GMs if Cal prepares his kids well for the NBA (especially guards) and more quickly than many other coaches....they would differ with your assessment. You don’t turn an 18 year old into a lotto pick in 8 months. Just like Reed Sheppard last year. Just because scouts whiffed on them - the same way they whiffed on Justin Edwards and Aaron Bradshaw for example ( we don’t say he ruined a lotto pick and turned them into a late pick do we?). I give him credit for helping Harrelson and Liggins and other guys develop over multiple years however.

They like to believe it was coincidence.... all 30 plus times... all coincidencesI think if you asked the former players and NBA GMs if Cal prepares his kids well for the NBA (especially guards) and more quickly than many other coaches....they would differ with your assessment.
My issue and point was that NBA preparation and college bball team results are not necessarily congruent.

No, the In-Season Tournament final does not count toward the regular season.OKC lost in mid season tournament final to MIL Bucks. did that not count or something?
