I don't know how many heard in the broadcast but during the second half Greenberg commented how Tai has helped the team in practice because he is a really strong physical player and that is why we have seen some post improvement. It made me wonder if that was just a comment or if Seth had observed a practice. If this is true, then it is interesting that he doesn't get any play. Today, there was a comment that no discussion by Cal has occurred about red-shirting. The one thing this team continues to miss is physical post play. I don't know why we need Skal taking those rushed jump shots as there most often are better shot selections. It all remains confusing. At this point in mid-Feb the lack of practice, conditioning, other players injured, or not knowing plays sounds suspect. However, if it was just a comment and Greenberg had not actually seen him play then that's a whole different story.

It may not make sense to throw him into an away game like A and M, yet I just can't imagine he is that bad and couldn't at least grab a rebound or defend a big man physically in a way Skal simply is not able to do so far.

Tai wants to redshirt. Cal said as much.
Yep. Even if he wanted to play, throwing him in, near the end of the season, on the road, with a rabid crowd, with no real game experience, would probably backfire.

Well (for arguments sake only) say Tai does want to RS this season, he can play in up to 10 games and still keep his RS eligibility. So if you count a possible 6 games in the tournament and 3 in the SECT He COULD play 1 game now if you wanted him available for all of the tournament games.

However, if he was going to be worth anything in the tournament he would need to have played by now.

For arguments sake........no he can't.........the 30% only applies to injured players.

If he was ready to play, he would be out there. Apparently he's not ready.

I fail to see what the big deal is. Back in the old days, lots of freshmen sat the bench and never played. Some sophomores, even.

Come to think of it, we had a sophomore who never played last year who hit, what 7 or 8 threes last night?

The whole situation surrounding Tai is being handled awkwardly. Enough with excuses and just put the truth out there.
No D1 athlete is that out of shape or struggles to learn offensive/defensive concepts when it applies to mop up mins. ???

To answer one of the OP's questions, it's my understanding that Greenburg, like all the national guys doing a few UK games a year, gets tidbits and information from the coaches, and maybe some media guys covering the program, to use for color commentary during the game.

Surely you realize that Greenburg attends a lot of UK practices and especially on the weeks that he is working the game. I saw him at practice week prior to KU game and I know he was at practice on Monday.

Oh get over yourself. The guy came in after mid season, is learning to adjust to a new COUNTRY and college and has to learn a whole system of basketball

Again, get over yourself

LOL what the fudge are you talking out ? He ain't ready so he doesn't play. Cal sees the guys every game so I trust him to play who needs to play.

Oh yeah, I've heard them (Greenberg, Dick Vitale, etc.) say during a game that they were at a practice that day. They kill some time leading up to the game and also get some talking point information.

And I think that 30% only applies to the first half of the season. I think there reaches a cutoff point somewhere during the season. I could be mistaken though. I don't think that stops players from requesting a medical redshirt to get a season back though.

Cal asked him to go in Georgia game for mop up duty and he said no . He wants to redshirt and should be allowed to

interesting, something else people tend to forget: most of our guys are actually here a week or two after HS gets out - meaning they have the whole summer to get started. So, it's not a matter of them starting to practice in November - they've already developed connections and begun strength training in June; a full 6 months before Tai got here.
**yes, I know there have been times when players get here much later, like right before freshman year starts, but for the most part, I think I'm correct on this

If he's not ready to play, he's not ready - he'll have gotten a jump on next season; if he were born here in the States he'd still be finishing up HS. But he's here, and will be here for summer classes - so really, playing or not right now, he's ahead of the other freshmen

Oh, didn't know that. Sorry.

No need to feel sorry...Redshirting seems to be the most misunderstood rule in player eligibility. I've read a 1000 times her that someone ought to redshirt to free up a schollie. They seem never to learn that a redshirt uses a schollie.

Young fella, please leave the coaching to Cal. He sees these kids every day in practice. We don't. He's got this.

He said himself he wants to redshirt, not sure if that's ever been mentioned on rafters.. I just got vertigo..

I'll take Skal shooting that 16 footer and live with it... He'll make more of those that he'll miss.....

You have to be hurt or have a medical condition serious enough to keep you from playing to request a medical redshirt.

Too late in the year to play now...you don't get to choose when you get to play the games..if he plays in one game now he burns his RS..

Yeah, it was cleared up earlier. I was under the impression that a player can play 30% of the season and still keep his eligibility. I didn't realize that, that only works for injuries for a medical RS. So disregard my suggestion.

Dugan... If you saw Greenburg AT practice
What are your thoughts on Tai? Is he going to be a good player? I had assumed he was a better player right now than Humphries but just behind.
