Seth Greenberg on KSR in a few minutes

Have you seen his ratings? Most define trash differently I guess.
Yeah, that's why Clay Travis isn't trash too. Skip Bayless, not trash because of ratings. Pat Forde and Jeff Goodman, do you see the ratings they get? They can't possibly be trash. Oh and Lavar Ball, do you see all the media attention he gets? Totally not trash.

  • Thought Cal did an incredible job coaching the team this season. Broke the season into 3 different phases. Could see the progress. Praised the team.
  • Wasn't sure if they put so much energy into the UCLA game, that he wasn't sure if that played a role in the UNC loss.
  • Said ppl don't realize how difficult it is to do what Cal has done, and that he does it better than anybody, re: coaching frosh.
  • On to the officiating ...
  • Said the officiating in the 1st half was bad, but the outrage is unacceptable.
  • Said the outrage is more about the history with Higgins, more so than any particular calls.
  • Said it's a bad look for UK fans.
  • Keeps going on about how UK fans look bad now
  • Talked to 3 final four refs yesterday. Said that those guys all said that what UK fans are doing, happens all the time. (So, why do UK fans look bad is my question?)
  • Says he is close with Calipari and does not have an agenda.
  • Admits that the media has an agenda, and is not objective, and he has a problem with that. Says that is why he isn't well liked among them either, but that they're a joke.
That's about it. Nothing worth listening to. Find it a bit disingenuous that he says UK fans look bad over this, but then goes on to act like it's a common occurrence.

Missed it so I appreciate the overview. Thanks. The only thing I would add is, even tho it may be a common occurrence, that doesn't make it right. I just feel that a few idiots are making all of BBN look bad. For the top basketball program of all time, we should be above that. Be upset, yes.....complain the right way, yes. But don't make us look like total head cases. They succeeded in putting us on Higgins level, imo.

We will be the story on the Final Four broadcast at some point. Congrats. Next year I say we go after Doug Shows, Ted Valentine, Doug Sirmons and Roger Ayers (we have a losing record when Ayers refs). Lets get that research going on what these asshats do in the off season so we can go after their personal/business and show them who's boss.

I agree with Greenburg.

As for the refs......I think refs should be held accountable for sure. I don't blame them as much as I blame the people above them that allow them to flourish in their job as a ref. I think that is where the problem really is. The fact that games in SEC are called different than the ACC and any other conference is a joke. But it's obvious there is a difference if you watch games. And it is the same actors every year. (Maybe a new crop is needed?)

And there are good refs and well called games. Certainly not an easy profession with the faster, bigger, stronger athletes. I think most reasonable fans (and likely coaches) just want consistency in a game. If you call it close, call it close for both and during the whole game. Or vice versa. I think that is where the biggest complaints come from.

The bad ones should not benefit from being bad. But that determination must be from above and made clear to all involved. This is lacking, IMO.

I don't know if you feel MJ is trash, or if you're just picking up the narrative that trash can't get good ratings; but, I don't know how anyone could say Jones is trash? Now Higgins - he's trash. Jones is just a fan with a show. Jones hurts no one. Listen or don't, it's your prerogative. Our team was forced to endure Higgins for at least 6 halves of biased officiating - that is trash. Jones, just a guy.

Well said brother. Well said. I agree. I don't blame a ref for missing a call, I do, however, blame a ref for biased play calling. That's what we have here. Thanks for the opinion.

It doesn't really matter if it happens all the time or not it's not appropriate. As my mom would say 2 wrongs don't make a right. Just because Alabama, Auburn, Kansas, etc do it doesn't mean we should or that it's okay.

I doubt it even happened..He needed to get the spotlight off him and what he did

It matters when we're the only ones that get hit pieces written about us because of it, though.

Exactly right. People are tuning in.

Higgins is no Pence. This Pence thing screams he might like to party beyond when he tips a few.

I can't believe we live in a society where a guy who doesn't put himself in situations for a) people to assume something is happening that isn't or b) another person could accuse him of doing something he didn't for not only the sanctity of his marriage but for his own career and personal reputation is made to be a bad guy. Bill Clinton had things go on in the Oval Office outside of his marriage that shouldn't have happened and some folks brush that off. Mike Pence says he doesn't want anyone being able to accuse him of those things so he avoids those situations and he is a nutcase, shady or a closet Superfreak.

Pence might have a drinking problem, not there is any thing wrong with that. One thing is for sure, he has something other women may want if he is drinking. (great opening lines?).

His wife is onto this VP celebrity stuff and how the fearless leader says: how to grab her.

We look bad because writers and commentators have done their best to make it sound like this is something that only happens at Kentucky. That's the objective, and a few idiots gave them an opening to make that the story.

I think the part about 3 Final Four refs confirming they've been threatened by non-UK fans over regular season games is important. They just weren't drama queens about it like Higgins, the NCAA, Forde & O'Neil, who have an agenda to make non-serious threats the story instead of his lousy officiating.

I don't necessarily agree that it's the writers and commentators fault for us looking bad but even if that were true, did you not expect that to happen? Of course everyone would make us look bad. It's still a few from our fan base that gave them the ammunition to use against us. But even if it happens all over the place, it's not a good look for anyone and it doesn't make it right. I'm sure it happens but I doubt it happens on this scale very often. It's not simply because it's UK fans that it's on the ESPN ticker, it's the scale of the incident and when the FBI gets involved and a bunch of death threats come into play, it draws the interest of the media because its news then.

It may happen on a smaller scale but the FBI doesn't get involved very often and that should tell ya that this is a unique situation. Im sure it has happened to other officials before but the scale to which it happened with Higgins is rare. Calling in the FBI is not a regular occurrence for officials.
Im not going to say how but over the past several years, Ive gotten to know a very successful D1 official who works in all the major conferences (except SEC actually and the PAC-12) and has worked the NCAA tournament for many years, including several E8s and FFs. But anyway, I spoke with him about this whole ordeal and he said that it does happen to some of the higher profile officials but very very rarely happens on this scale and he can't recall the last time it was this big. He said sometimes a guy will get a few comments from some idiotic fan on the internet or a few fans may call a place of business or something of that nature but he doesn't recall ever hearing of the FBI getting involved. He said ..."I'm not saying it's never happened cause I'd say it probably has but I can't ever remember hearing about it. So, that would mean that it's at least extremely rare for it for reach this level".

Take it for what's it's worth or don't take it at all. Just passing along the conversation. However, like I said, even if it happened every year with a different school, it still doesn't make it right. I think it's quite humorous when people try to justify the actions by saying that other fan bases do it as well. Really? So, that makes it ok? When I got in trouble, it never worked for me as a kid when I told my parents that my brother did it too. I still got my ass busted. The more people doing something wrong doesn't justify the action, it just means that more people are guilty of being wrong. It's just that simple.
