Seth Greenberg observations after watching team practice

Wow, he said the SEC could be a "7 bid league". When's the last time we saw that?
What will rival fans have left to pick on if the SEC gets 7 in and UK wins the title with a bunch of 18 and 19 year olds?

Yep. That "killer schedule" is gonna make us a very, very tough out come March/April.

I literally freak out like a 7 year old when things don't go my way over U.K. Basketball.

Hell I've got a Duke "fan" friend who I won't even speak to right now over this crap. Can't even get if off my mind.

I hate Barney and Bell because it's probably their fault to an extent.

I'm a mess right now. At least I'm honest.
I also have a Duke fan friend and hate it with a passion. Absolutely do not see the appeal of Duke for someone to become a fan. I think they're despicable and disgusting.

It should be against NCAA rules to change your own entrance requirements for athletes. Don't they have to pass the same classes. I see this as impossible for all these athletes to compete in these classes and pass just like the other students.

im praying he's wrong about Richards. We don't need another 7 ft waste of space. If he can't shoot or can't play to expectations, we are screwed come tournament time.

Another 7 ft waste of space?

The only guy that I'd say is a definite starter is Diallo. There are a bunch of possible combinations for the other four spots. We could go three guards or start three forwards. I wouldn't be surprised at the latter since the guys who are the closest thing to traditional centers we have are big question marks. Lets hope the competitiveness is because everyone is really good rather than everyone being "meh".

I think Knox is automatic

I actually think Green is penciled but unless SGA kicks his butt in practice.

How many times before people understand? The NBA drafts based on measurables, upside, specific skills i.e. shooting, and overall current ability. Richards has 2..great size and athleticism. He will be gone by season's end bc he can provide a team something now and has tremendous upside.

Yeah, maybe. Maybe not. But definitely not 100%. We haven't seen him play 1 college game yet. So who knows if he will automatically get drafted in 1st round bc has "good measurables"
That being said, if he is indeed this amazing world beater who is no question gonna be a monster 1 and done , Then we will be in very good shape this year.

I think a reasonable, and I would be happy with this, expectation from Richards would be the FR version of WCS. No offense other than lobs & put-backs, but good defense. Partly inflated due to the Noel injury in SEC play, WCS averaged 23.6 mpg, 8.3 ppg, 6.2 rpg, 2.1 bpg. He made 62% of his shots, but only 37% at the line (ok I need better than 37%).

Yeah, Loved WCS but 37% is absurdly terrible lol

setting aside for a moment your crass description....where did this recent notion that you have to have 5 productive players/stars come from? It's crazy - it's like we could have 4 first round draft picks, and unless the 5th guys is also a future lottery guy all hope is lost. What about a solid role player? A big who just defends and rebounds and can score on rebounds and putbacks, etc?

No one ever used to think this way. But ironically, at a time when the game is watered down from kids leaving early, and therefore are no great teams any more - NOW it's suddenly imperative that you have 5 killers.

Guards are very weak
Their only question mark is point guard, Gilder's a very good shooting guard who had to play point last year because Caldwell was ineligible. This year they'll have Caldwell and Duane Wilson, a cg from Marquette playing point, their backcourt shouldn't be bad at all.

WCS did exactly the right thing staying at Kentucky three years in terms of his NBA future and the money he has made. He had more size and athleticism than Richards. And had he left after one year, he'd have been making a huge mistake. To say Richards will for sure be gone because he has size and athleticism (albeit less than Willie) is to betray a lack of understanding of which you accuse others.

Well said

Welp, have at it. Getting all tore up won't change anything though. I just can't worry about things I can't control.

I'm just into my 30's. I haven't figured out how to let things go that I cannot control yet.

I too am fed up to my eyeballs with Duke and their fake all American choirboy act. I'd love to see K carted off on a stretcher after Allen "accidentally" tripped an opposing player who then crashed into Duke's bench and landed in K's
lap.
What I would give to have that scene on a continuous loop...greatest gif EVER!

It's a point that most people miss. And honestly, I think Cal has changed his tune a bit. It used to be Cal would just go try to get the very best player at every position and then figure out how to play them. He seems to have backed off that a little. He is now seemingly going after the best players he feels he can get at a few positions, and then trying to fill in with the best complimentary players he can get. It is more important that the parts fit together, and if we look back at the few teams in the Cal era that were "missing that one player", it isn't so much the talent the player would bring, but the dimension to the team they would bring. Last year we missed a guy like Richards to protect the rim. Now maybe that guy should have been SKJ, but it didn't happen. The whole needs to be more than the sum of the parts, and that is why it is not important to have all-stars at every position.

Look no further than the US vs Canada at the U19 games. US had more talent, but Canada fit together better, and RJ had an outstanding game. Every shot can only be taken by a single player, yet it takes a lot more non-stat sequences to get that one shot. Likewise, every rebound can only be gotten by a single player, yet it takes multiple players blocking out for that one player to get the rebound, and the rest of the guys don't get a single mark in the stats. It might be true that you can never have too many shooters, but the reality is you really only need one, because as long as you have one, that dimension is covered.

Everyone seems to talk about how good Shai is.

I thought he looked very good and controlled in the Derby Classic.

The fact that Greenberg did not mention Gabriel after a summer of hearing how he was tearing it up is interesting and odd. I suspect that Cal asks Seth not to reveal a few things he wants to unveil and talking up Wenyen has not been good for WG in the past. Or, was all of that just summer hype?
