See how much smoother the offense is

Oscar wasn’t the only problem. The inability of Keion Brooks (and later Jacob Toppin) to consistently hit three point shots doomed those teams’ offensive flow. Also didn’t have a guard that can just blow by you at will like DJ.

Someone said it earlier, but it's amazing what a top tier PG does for a team.

Askew and two years of Wheeler to this...

without Oscar, Toppin, and Brooks in it!
I’d not jump to any conclusions yet. We looked like Al NBA in Bahamas last year Toppin looked like Paul George etc

These are glorified AAU games. Nobody is locking you down in D, The big men for Germany were terrible. Germany could shoot light out thoughts

I am glad Reeves came back for another year. Mitchell if he can spot up and hit open threes will be a valuable asset. DJ does everything. Rebound, scrap on defense , slash , deflect, etc

Oscar would have had 60 rebounds and germany would have forfeited at halftime.

Until they realized they can score on him at will by using a pick and roll. If he had 60 rebounds, he likely gives up 100 layups. Not to mention the clogged lane on offense that would limit our guards driving ability.

Correct. Offense looks easy when the PG can explode by someone with ease. Cal never had an issue with a guy like that in a game like this.

The real test comes in sec play when Wagner or Edwards blows by someone and has three people in the lane waiting to flop for the surefire charge. That's the issue cal hasn't been able to overcome. As much as I criticize cal, and he deserves it, that really is an issue that should never exist. Those should be blocks.

Out of control flopping/charges forever changed college basketball. No one can drive the lane anymore because it's a guaranteed charge. That's why the game is more or less a contested game of horse.

I have no clue how Cal thought Askew, Wheeler (2 years) and Hagans (2 years) were UK caliber point guards.

He should be embarrassed, especially on the Askew thing. Not only did he have him reclass to KENTUCKY, but he started him and he went with him as a starter for a very loooong time.
You don't start Hagans over Maxey and you don't start Wheeler over Tyty, or Wallace. you don't play Askew over anybody.

Your pg needs to be able to shoot and beat good defenses off the bounce. It looks like we have two this year and the best part is, there is no returning pg that Cal feels need to promise starters minutes to.

They also played on a FIBA court instead of an NCAA court.

The lane is wider and the three point line a bit further back, so I would assume that may also help with creating more space on the court than in college.

To be clear though, I wasn’t able to watch the game so that is speculation on my part.

can we really call it an offense at this point? They haven't worked on anything yet. looked like street ball for the most part. I mean thay ran one out of bounds play and we don't even have one of those in the play book, that had to be an accident.
I have been running Cal down at about every turn I have gotten over last few years and he has deserved evey bit of it. But... I was impressed by yesterday's game. I was not expecting them to look so impressive. This s not the same type of team we have been seeing the last 3 years. And I liked the sideline coaching from Cal. Hope he doesn't revert back when he gets a true big in.

Whether it was an accident or if Cal finally drew one up...it still made my willy wiggle.

We'll see how these guards do against physical, experienced SEC guards. They sure look to have the potential to be really good. Maybe even good enough to overcome Cal's coaching deficiencies. That's the recipe for success with Cal.

Three point line is the same now. Only NBA is longer now.

But yes, the wider lane should've happened year's ago. It helps offensive flow and makes it harder to camp. Speaking of which 3 seconds isn't called enough in college. And it's ruining the game.

I agree it’s not the same type of team. But I still didn’t see much of an offense yesterday. They were just naturally better then the opponent and the street ball flows better making it look like an offense. That’s what happened Cows first 5 years. It wasn’t his coaching and yesterday wasn’t either. When we run into team as talented as UK - and we will - they will be running top notch offenses and that will make the difference. Only time it didn’t was with a super star like AD. Even the 2015 team couldn’t out talent Cow.

Yeah, that’s my bad on the three point line. Forgot they moved the line back in college to match FIBA.

Amazing what elite point guard play does for an offense. Speed and ability to attack and get to the rim completely compromises a defense. Wagner is so strong in the upper body and is relentless attacking.
that’s exactly why he will be top 5 in the draft.

No we didn’t. We looked lost in the Bahamas as far as offense. Those were just run up and down scrimmages.

We look better now because we have better players.

We even have some high BB IQ players now. We haven’t had that for the last 3 seasons. In fact, we have had very low BB IQ players.

SEC refs don’t allow the dribble drive! They will call 10-12 charges a game on DJ,Rob and Edwards!
