KY ( BBN) it was time for a change but we helped run off a HOF Coach that averaged a 27-8 record over 15 years. Drew is a much better Coach then CAL and should do extremely well if he has the fire to win Nattys. I don’t want Barney’s buddy here making bank being average when it counts in March.

The problem is he isn’t coming to UK to hit the ground running. If he comes he’s going to treat the job like cal. He’s gonna expect to be around until retirement. That’s where he is in his career. Taking that route he will be run out in year 2. It’s been 5 years since we really experienced March madness. We need a coach who is hungry to win now or it will be a Bcg situation again. Booze or not.

And to go the nepotism route and not contact Bruce pearl .712 win % or Kelvin Samson .682 win % shows how tone deaf Barney is. These guys will fight like hell to win a title. And both would come to uk. Drew had 1 good season out of 22. 22 years let that sink in. You think he’s gonna come to UK for a 5-10 year stint? Will he even chance it. I mean he had to know about the social media backlash.

I still think if uconn cant match UK at hurley for 12 mill a year he will come. His coaching has been flawless and UK fans respect coaching. Hes also blunt which will work here.

I really hope it comes down to money. I’d wine and dine the hell out of his wife because I heard she will be tough to convince to go anywhere.

And you are partially right. But who else do you suggest if Hurely, Donovan, Wright and Oats all say no ?( as it seems they have/will).

Seems odd it wasn't the covid year, but teams were adhering to covid restrictions. And teams were having to pull out of the tournament due to covid. Players had to sit due to covid or covid symptoms. The season was shortened, and Baylor for instance only played about half a season, and they had pretty much all of February off due to Covid.

I would contact Beard, Oats, Few long before Drew. I would likely consider some cheaper up and comers first as well. Golden or someone similar. Drew is an awful fit here.

I started this post in rebuttal to the thread that Drew was "Cal light." That's ridiculous and he definitely would be an upgrade. However, if it were up to me, I said elsewhere I would be hiring Bruce Pearl instantly. He has over-achieved everywhere with less talent, is a great coach, he is out-going which is a fit for Kentucky basketball, he would engage the fans, he would definitely be successful recruiting and his players come back versus coming just to spend a year practicing for the NBA. No way would Pearl have done a Sharpe deal either.

Nevertheless, on this site no one is going to agree on any particular coaching choice. Personally, I feel for recruiting (portal) we need to see a decision soon.
