say what you will about Willis....

Who played better in the UCLA game? Poythress was terrible and I thought Willis outplayed him in pretty much every category. .

UMMMM. IDK thats what everyone does? Scouts grade college players based on their production in college.

Willis couldn't match Young's college production either.

Some people want Willis to be something hes not.

You talking about NBA scouts? They grade players based on their college production? Really? Wow man. They grade on potential. If they graded on college production we wouldnt have half of the guys going to the league from UK. Production? Amazing. How much did Orton produce? Dakari Johnson? Come on, surely you are better than this.

Yes it is a mixture of both. Sure they will draft the 7 footer based on potential. But if it was solely based on potential why is Skal dropping? Why did Shabazz drop? Why even watch the games at all? You can see everything you need to know about potential at the combines. Surley you do not think whatever they do on the college level is meaningless

Looking at all of the "horrible team and poor coaching" posts. The same posters are throwing "likes" at all of them.
I think I want to up my "like" count. I am going to continually criticize different aspects of coaching, playing time, players and even some blue hair stuff (willis joke...get it?)

We are better on offense with him in the game...thats what i said and that is not debateable

Actually, that is highly debatable, IMHO. Show us some stats to back up you claim.

Ask and you shall receive........P.S. This is not about who is the best total player.
Willis..........2nd on team in 3pt shooting
Willis..........100% in FT 8-8
Willis..........only 4 to's in 104 mins..you do the math
Willis..........tied for 4th in assists....with limited mins

On defense.......tied for 4th in block shots.

IMO...Willis is a very good role player.......Just me, but
I don't see that much drop off when he enters the game.

The stats on Willis are he disappears when the talent around him is performing to ability. they aren't playing very well, and our competition hasn't been outstanding. Him just being being average right now isn't a good thing for him. If ever he wanted to take a spot, it would be now. He's not taking it, and he won't have long make it happen either.

Willis will be getting little minutes by mid January / early February if this team is what it needs to be by those times.

Unless of course his game rapidly improved.

My 2 cents- I like Willis. I think he has more ability than some here want to give credit. I also think some here want to give him too much credit. He didn't get much run last night because of the quickness EKU had on the floor. That's his achilles, in my opinion. His lateral quickness is lacking and it makes him struggle guarding a quick, athletic player. That's it. If UK were a zone team, he'd be getting more minutes. But it's man to man for Calipari and it always has been. And hey, he's better than he was before, without a doubt. I was noticing his footwork last night defensively, and he's improved. So, give him credit.

This is the bottom line, in my opinion. If Willis wants to see the floor, he's got to hit threes. Now, he CAN do it, but it's a mental thing, I think.
What else can he do to see the floor? Crash the boards like a madman. Get steals. Finish on the break. This will get him on the floor.

I'm sure some think he's not getting enough of a chance, and you may be right. Last night was not a good game for him- too much quickness all over the floor for EKU kept him on the bench. That's the same thing that kept Humphries on the bench. Bad match-ups.

Matt said this morning that what he's hearing is that Willis still has problems with putting forth the effort in practice. Amazes me how fans think any college coach, let alone one as successful as Cal is too stupid to play to the right players. Like they could possibly know something from just watching games that Cal can't see being with these kids every day.

Still predicting the future (I'm not saying you are wrong)
Just saying that Willis has very good stats compared
to some starters.
Maybe Willis could get some clock against the opponent's
second tier players.
What about offense in/defense out in closing minutes.Good tall
inbound target, get fouled......he at 100% from the line.

nah, Cal takes it as a personal challenge to try and win with the least talent he has available, just like his idol CRP did with Anderson.
