The more likely explanation is that the announcers are just idiots. They thought when Townsend tipped it backcourt it should have been a backcourt violation, but that's not the rule.

Shows how bad our defense is. We got cooked by every guard we faced this year. It’s not lucky if it happens every single game with different strategy’s and players.
I dont know about this. Most of his 3s against us were off balance or heavily contested. Four of them could have been and-1s we were on him so tight.
I agree he hit some hard shots but overall we can weather 4 lucky shots. The other 6 wide open ones are what killed us. If a guy is that hot deny him the ball, we don’t know how to do that.
