Sat game won't be on Dish

I just noticed that CBS and FOX networks have been removed from Dish today. The game Sat. is on CBS, so it will not be on. Guess I'm going to have to switch back to Direct TV before my contract is up! That is in addition to FOX News being off for several weeks now.

I may be off here, but is it on regular CBS or CBSSN? I believe those are different.

It's regular CBS. I am pretty sure Dish didn't take away regular CBS. That would be crazy.

Yep. I'm ignorant.
I don't know about that, ukfan79. I have Direct here in Lexington and they have taken away our local NBC channel. It still shows up on the schedule guide but when you click on it there is just a message from Direct saying the channel removed itself even though Direct has tried to keep them. So, I can imagine that Dish could do the same with CBS if they are having contract disputes. The customers are the ones who suffer while these greedy companies try to get more money which we, of course, end up paying for with higher rates.

Dish/Direct sometimes do take away locals in money disputes and it's a real biotch. Luckily this game is on CBS nationally, and just plug an antenna into your TV and watch it that way. DO NOT PAY MORE FOR A "DIGITAL" ANTENNA. Hell, you can build your own with a damn coat hanger. Any modern TV has the digital tuner already in it, and the frequencies for the old analog and the new digital are THE SAME. Don't get scammed.

it's all a game of chicken between the local and the carrier wanting more money. It's despicable and one of the many reasons I refuse to pay for major cable/dish carriers.

Bdkatfan, WFIE 14 done same thing not too long ago. I can get all local channels great with $19.00 digital antenna from Wal mart. I am in Newburgh area, and I assume you are further away. Hope you can get it somehow!!!

From WEVV's facebook page:

The agreement between Dish Network and Bayou City Broadcasting Evansville to carry WEVV (CBS44 and FOX44) expired Wednesday January 7, 2015 at Midnight. Bayou City Broadcasting offered to extend the agreement through Friday January 9, 2015. Dish Network has declined Bayou City Broadcasting's offer. Dish Network does not appear to value the programming that WEVV offers to Dish Network's customers now that the ownership has changed on January 2, 2015 to Bayou City Broadcasting Evansville. Under Bayou City Broadcasting WEVV will continue to bring viewers coverage of the NFL including 14 Indianapolis Colts games. WEVV is also home to CBS coverage of NCAA Basketball including University of Kentucky Basketball, The Masters, and great programs like NCIS, Scorpion, CSI, The Good Wife, Survivor, 60 Minutes, and more. WEVV also brings viewers FOX coverage of the NFL, NASCAR, and great programs like Gotham, Sleepy Hollow, American Idol, and more. Dish Network was also informed that Bayou City Broadcasting will be improving upon their broadcast by adding Local News to WEVV in the very near future. If you are a Dish Network Customer, take action now so you don't miss the AFC and NFC Playoffs. You may receive WEVV over the air with an antenna, through DirecTV, or your local cable provider.

Dish is a sinking ship.

Get direct and stop being the "other" Rob Low.

I had Direct for years, now I've had Dish for years. I'm still with Dish, works better for me when taking into account $$$$ and everything else involved. Bad misconception that Direct is above Dish when really it's a personal choice just like having a Big Mac or a Whopper with cheese.

How do you know that? Have you had both for extended periods of time?

I've had DISH for 20 yrs and it works fine for me, but I can't tell you it's better than Direct because I've never had it.

I've had dish and direct both.

Direct is far more superior in almost every aspect. My in laws have dish and they are switching after a decade. Even the HD is better with direct.

Dish is losing networks one after another.

Dish is the titanic. In 20 years people will be saying "remember dish network?

All you need is a $10 pair of rabbit ears. Hook them into any HDTV and you will be a crystal clear HD picture for local channels assuming you are within range of the local channel signal.

Hopefully, in 20 yrs people will be talking about how we used to have to use cable or a dish in order to watch TV in the same manner we currently talk about the days before cable TV.

I have Dish and I have CBS, but I'm in Ohio so it sounds like a local deal. I also switched to Dish from DirecTV, I really like Dish and have had no negative issues whatsoever. Hopefully what will happen in the future is Dish and DirecTV will be the main ones and the awful cable subscribers will die. I would imagine in 20 years people will be saying "remember cable?". The guys talking trash about Dish sounds like a 15 year old fanboy talking about why Sega is better than Nintendo. No reason to pay attention to people like that.

To further advocate watching the game over-the-air (OTA) with an antenna, the picture quality is significantly better OTA. The cable and satellite companies have to fit A LOT of channels over a relatively small bandwidth. The take the same signal that is provided OTA and compress it - with loss - into a format that significantly reduces the bandwidth requirements.

Exactly how big an impact the compression has depends a lot on the video. Fast moving action (like sports) have a bigger quality reduction than slower moving video like a talk show.

If you manage to get an antenna connected and get strong enough signal to watch OTA, switch back and forth from the OTA feed to the dish/cable feed of a basketball game (or hockey or something similar). Depending on your tv, you may notice a surprisingly large difference.

OTA does not work if you live 120 miles away from your "local Channel" area that is why some of us have to rely on Dish or Direct for our service.

Many broadcast network affiliates are regionally ownned, and do get temporarily bumped from cable providers from time to time.

Everyone should keep a good antenna handy for situations like this.

CBS streams the game on-line, so you have that option, as well.

I often don't get to see many of the noon KY games, because the local CBS affiliate is the home of ACC games here locally. Stinks, but 'tis life.

Sure. It can fail at much closer ranges than that in the mountains as well. But (for obvious reasons) OTA broadcasters are located geographically in such a way that they can provide a signal to the strong majority of the population. And if you are in that majority, it's nice to know that a $10 antenna can give you NCAA, NFL, NBA, and NHL games for free with higher quality than is possible from any pay-provider. These days, most people have lived with cable/dish for so long that they don't know how good and easy OTA can be.

Well we are unfortunately out of luck as we cannot get a signal OTA as the signal is lousy, that's why we have Satellite TV. We also have Hughes net for internet, as again we cannot get anything other than dial up in our location. The data allotment for Hughes is too restrictive to stream so that option is also out. Oh the joys of living in a rural area. :(

I tried hooking the antenna back up on the TV in the bedroom and got some channels but not 44 which is CBS for me. Could get other locals but not CBS ?

Dish is losing networks one after another.

Dish is the titanic. In 20 years people will be saying "remember dish network?
I have had both Dish & Directv,i have installed both dish and directv as well as FTA systems,C-band,and the long gone Primestar.

I still install and service both systems and can say with certainty that they are both "OK" but both stop short of being far superior than the other.I prefer Dish for the simple reason that they are still easier to deal with on the retail level.

Both services have contract disputes that send business to their competitor, this much I know .

If either service is in business in twenty years (I very seriously doubt either will) they will in no way resemble what they are today.

I still have Primestar and we get every channel. You guys should check it out.
