He is not great, but has time to improve. Right now he is like Cal when he first got here, living off getting incredible talent. His in-game tactics are nothing to write home about. Very similar to Cal, but he is just getting started, which means he will probably learn and get better, unfortunately.Unfortunately At this point I think saying scheyer is a bad coach is wishful thinking. He’s been there 3 years and he’s been to the FF and elite 8. they still recruit well. By no metric has he been bad.
K's influence is still HEAVILY felt in that program. I don't think we will truly know what Duke will be like until he's gone from this realm.Unfortunately At this point I think saying scheyer is a bad coach is wishful thinking. It also remains to be seen what impact losing his top assistant in Lucas will have on Scheyer and Duke.He is not great, but has time to improve. Already lost a big recruit for this year (Henderson) because of it.It also remains to be seen what impact losing his top assistant in Lucas will have on Scheyer and Duke.
Exactly. Some of you guys polish off Duke's shoes worse than their own fans.
Historically, I was very respectful of guys like Zion, RJ, Deng, Tatum, Grant Hill, Jay Williams, and even Flagg. Those guys forced you to respect them because they were the real deal.
This upcoming team of Dukies is all hype. The Boozers don't scare me in the least. I do not revere them from a on-the-court perspective like some of the players above that I mentioned.
Being in the ACC helps that.I am no fan, but you can’t deny that Scheyer has been great in his first 3 years. He’s winning at a higher % than Coach K did and has an E8 and a F4 already. Duke’s recruiting has not been affected either, we’re going to be contending with Scheyer for a long time.
It’s very unfortunate they got Sarr. Sarr and Wilkins together with they already had in incoming freshman class and returning is making again the best team in ACC and final four contenders. Nikolas Khamenia is going to be great off the bench .Projected Starters
G Foster(6’5 JR)
G Sarr(6’6 FR)
G Evans(6’6 SO)
F Boozer(6’9 FR)
F Ngongba(6’11 SO)
That’s some really good length all around.
Looks like a Cal lineup circa 2015.
Long and athletic, but minimal experience.
Not a lot of bench firepower. Brown, the Rice transfer (Ufochukwu) and some Freshmen, I believe.
I’m thinking top 15-20, but not top 10. Probably a Sweet Sixteen team. They’ll compete with UofL for the ACC title.
I think part of that is K is still around and NIL means they don’t have to hide paying players anymore. Once you don’t need to be creative about paying players and how you obtain that money collecting blue chips is much easier. Plus the ACC is trash now days. UK would be far better If they weren’t banged up last year by the SEC. He may be a good coach but at the least his play calling late game makes me think he isn’t as good as his record reflects. I think He has some smart guys helping pregame plan it. He may be good but he isn’t K good.I am no fan, but you can’t deny that Scheyer has been great in his first 3 years. I believe Wade gets Haggerty and NC state will be a good team this year. Maimi will be a team on the rise with Lucas, and I would assume they have a solid NIL budget. The SEC programs have also put money into basketball programs and retained and got top level coaches in the league.A lot of gurus have UofL ahead of them in the ACC.
I think that’s a two team race in the ACC, unless maybe Will Wade manages to get Haggerty to NC State. The rest of the conference is awful. Both UofL and Duke will likely pad their tourney resume with blowouts all season and get higher seeds than they deserve.
Meanwhile, we will battle it out in a conference that is 12+ deep with NCAA tourney teams.
Use to be the other way around with UK and Duke. Conference realignment has really watered down the ACC and turned the SEC into a powerhouse.
I would not put us ahead of Duke until we see how good Pryor looks coming back from injury, how good Fru looks, and the Aly situation. Duke does have lottery talent with Boozer and Sarr.
I think Evans as well could be a lottery pick, and I would think he should have a better year than Sarr because having a year of college. The rest I would say Sarr did not try the draft this year is because of the depth. Richardson, Clayton, Uzan, and Pettiford are all projected late first-2nd round guys. Which is also why Boogie Fland and Uzan are returning to college as well I believe.I think it's odd that Sarr is considered lottery next year, when he could have gone to the draft this year. If he has something to prove, then he isn't really 'lottery talent" yet, imo.
Duke will be very young with Coward leaving. They'll need Evans to be a star to be relevant.
I think SMU will be really good in the ACC. They bring back their 3 best players and added Jaron Pierre, who we all wanted. I like Sam Walters too, who was good at Alabama, the year before last.
Job was handed to him, but so far he has proved to keep it rolling. Coach K was the entire Duke program, so I did figure they would fall off.Not sure the way they are constructing their roster is how it's done these days.
Also, Scheyer just is not a legit coach. Didn't earn that job, was given it.
I saw him repeatedly move Flagg to the point in the final 10 minutes of close games only for them to lose almost every one of those games. So either he is not a good coach or he is insane because insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.Unfortunately At this point I think saying scheyer is a bad coach is wishful thinking. I don’t like Duke either but that’s not true. Flagg didn’t play PG for the 1/4 of a game lol. Also they went 35-4 and were a 1 seed. To me acting like that is some bad coaching job is stupid. You can’t pick one or two moments and make that the end all be all.I saw him repeatedly move Flagg to the point in the final 10 minutes of close games only for them to lose almost every one of those games. He was at the top of the key initiating the offense down the stretch in our game, the Clemson game and in their final four game and if you think he didn't then that tells me all I need to know about your knowledge of the game.I don’t like Duke either but that’s not true.
