Rumor about Mgbako price?

I’m an IU fan and I cannot wait to read this board if you guys pay Mackenzie Mgbako big money.

Dude cannot guard a chair, routinely half asses it on the court and is nowhere near the shooter he was billed to be.

Again, if he ends up at UK I cannot wait to see what you folks think of him.
Shocked me when I heard he was coming for a visit. I could name ten guys off the top of my head that I know is better than him and none of them has even visited.

Man, so much to respond to. . .

1. This dude's twitter has 151 followers and he claims to be "Independent Sports Journalist".
2. MgBako is a DUDE. He is athletic, fast and everything that most experts on Rupp's Rafters said we needed last year.
3. Pope and his staff are smarter than all of us.
4. Chill TF out. Maybe take a break from RR.

IU fan. Been watching Mackenzie Mgbako for two years.

Positives?
Mgbako has an absolutely fantastic shooting stroke. And at 6'9" with a pretty quick release he has the ability to use it.
Mgbako is a pretty reasonable perimeter defender for his size - he has improved a ton with that.

Negatives?
Mgbako is most definitely not athletic or fast. He plays below the rim, does not finish well, and has no ability to score near the rim or be aggressive when he gets the ball there.
Mgbako is not an intuitive player. When he's singled up on defense he's good, but when there's a ton of switching and reacting he stinks. He is also a terrible passer and turns it over when he needs to put the ball on the floor.
Most importantly? Mgbako has the gloomiest personality imaginable. He never gets mad. He never gets excited. He is in a continuing state of meh. He is one of the primary reasons that the IU locker room kinda stunk for the past two years after Trayce Jackson Davis, Miller Kopp, and Race Thompson left. Leal and Goode, two significantly less talented players, gradually leached minutes away from Mgbako this year, and as they did so the team dynamic improved.

Good luck with him. My prediction (FWIW) is that he'll have a fantastic game early in the season when he gets good looks, but when it's all said and done he'll frustrate the crap out of most of you.

When Mgbako decommitted from Duke and picked IU over Kansas, I was over the moon. I thought the Hoosiers were going to get a true difference making 5 star talent.

Dude was AWFUL for 80% of his freshman year. It was actually difficult to find anything he did particularly well. To be fair, he caught fire shooting the basketball late in the year and I was encouraged for Mack going into his sophomore season. Well, I quickly realized that Mgbako was the same guy who sucked as a frosh.

Seriously, no improvement in any area all year. He is still incredibly slow on defense. His lateral movement looks like that of Redd Foxx. He cannot handle the ball well enough to drive to the bucket. Mgbako has the tools to be an oustanding shooter, but that sure as hell wasn't going to happen in Bloomington and as I said in an earlier post, Mgbako often didn't look like he cared and didn't always look like he was going 100%.

That's a deal breaker for me. Okay, you hate being in Bloomington and want out. Fine by me but aren't you trying to get to the next level? Is sucking and showing barely any effort going to help you reach that goal?

Weird, weird dude.

Interesting to note: That crap-ass IU team this past year had two really good wins - at Michigan State and home against Purdue.

In the Michigan State game, Mgbako played 9 minutes. In the Purdue win, Mgbako played 13 minutes.

What bothers me the most is our recruiters using time on a guy like this instead of knowing the four guys we need and going full boar on those. Time, money and persistence with who you want 24/7 till they come or are gone. I get the notion of having backups just in case but most of the guys we pursue that are good usually visits several schools and drags along shopping themselves.
