Rules question on the 3-pt fouls

Is the rule for allowing a player to land after a jumpshot specific to threes? Or if you land in their area on a 15 footer would it technically be the same foul? I doubt it would get called the same.

And that brings me to the post, where it would almost be impossible to stay out of someone's landing area on a drive or post up. That's what I think bothers me the most about that rule, is how it's inherently not one that can be called consistently.

What drives me insane about it is they call it even when the shooter kicks their feet forward or spread eagle in an unnatural shooting motion. If it's not your normal shooting motion then it shouldn't be called just like it shouldn't be called a foul when a defender jumps straight up with their hands straight up and the shooter jumps into him. Zeigler at UT draws a lot of fouls by jumping into a defenders space and initiating the contact. If a guy is in his space and in legal guarding position and the offensive player jumps into you and makes contact it should be an offensive foul regardless of if the defender flops and falls. Just because a defender maintains his upright position doesn't mean the offensive player didn't initiate the contact and shouldn't be whistled for an offensive foul.

I feel like unless you are bowling the guy over, if the shot was released before contact, and then there is some slight contact, no-call, incidental contact.

Its become like the pass interfence call in Football to me. Dont mind it being a foul if the defender indeed moves into or under a shooter trying to come down but think it should be after the shot foul and not 3 shots. Just too easy to manipulate if players know how to do it. And makes it almost impossible to close out on a shooter aggressively like it is to cover a WR too close.

I like that idea of an after-the-shot foul. Basically if the shooter makes it then the defender adds a foul to their total and move on. If he misses it, offense either gets the ball back or shoots 1-and-1 or 2, depending on total fouls up to that point (like any other foul). Am I understanding you correctly?

There's not much better in basketball than seeing a defender successfully predict that the offensive player is going to jump into them to create contact and moves out of the way. They look foolish flying in a physically unnatural direction. I hate flopping and love when it's exposed.
I've said this in other threads, but I wish the officials would call too many flopping violations than practically none (like currently). Go too far in the direction of penalizing guys foul baiting, and even if you end up penalizing a few players incorrectly, it will ultimately be for the best if it curbs the tendency in general. And if there's a legitimate foul but the player exaggerates their reaction, call offsetting fouls.
