Rules have been changed for next season

FFS abolish the charge call already. Remove that stupid arc under the basket.

Please make suggestions on how any team would be able to defend drivers if what you suggest was done? On offense I would just drive to the basket every trip down floor. Why not I could not be called for a foul ? What would you suggest if I did this and just ran over your defenders? I would recruit big strong guards and just drive to the basket every possession. What would the officials call if this happened and I just constantly ran over your defenders? Are you suggesting all such contact just be called a blocking foul? It is not possible to do what you suggest and not completely ruin the game.

No. He's suggesting to abolish the block/charge call which encourages players to stop moving their feet and attempt to DRAW and charge. Key word being draw which turns into flopping. Offensive fouls can still exist.

It emphasizes defenders moving their feet and going up to contest the shot. It lowers the risk of player injury as well. If an offensive player wants to lower a shoulder and bulldoze over someone or shove off it can still be called a foul.

If a player wants to drive every possession into good defense and force bad shots then let them. Thats a low success rate as long as they aren't bailed out by flopping and officials recognize they are out of control.

I liked Goodwin and think he was forced to try to do too much because he was the only player capable of creating on his own. But you can use him as an example of what I'm talking about with driving and forcing shots that aren't there because the defender moved his feet and challenged.

Precisely.

OK there's more than a few questions to cover here but the basis of what you just questioned/suggested improved the game in my book. If you're unable to face up and attempt to block a shot, then you're SOL. The real men are under the basket.

I merely suggested making a simple removal of the charge call. Any player who deliberately stands in front of an offensive player whose carrying momentum into a stationary defender solely to draw a foul on said player should be an automatic foul on the defensive player. It literally scares the shit out of me when a player is trying to draw a charge on a player who is airborn and has no control of what he's about to land on. I think it increases the chances of players getting seriously injured. What was it all for? You got beat to the basket, let the player score.

Now Askeladden would still keep the offensive foul. There are instances where a ballhandler will use the ol forearm on a defender to clear out space. There can still be illegal picks, 3 second calls, and the occasional barrelling down and mowing over players. Those are offensive fouls all day everyday. Just want to instill more common sense.

Don't even get me started on the zone defense..... but I don't think there are any rules to deter that.

I do not get your point. A defensive player must have established his position on the floor to get a charging call otherwise it is called a block. It seems you are suggesting that defensive players just get out of the way and let the offensive player have a clear lane to the basket and not try to defend him.

I could see the block charge call not being a foul that counted on a players personal foul numbers and no foul shots given If it is a block the offense keeps the ball and if it is a charge the defense gets the ball but eliminating the block charge call entirely is not possible and still have any reasonable defense played. I think it is fine just the way it is. The officials just need to call it better and to their defense it is the toughest call to get right in basketball.

I have always thought that it should be called a charge if the defender maintains position in front of the offensive player even if the defender is moving if the offensive player initiates the contact. It should be a block if the defender makes contact while moving when the defender has him beat.

Moving the circle under the basket further out would make it more difficult for secondary defenders to set up to take the charge and I think this would be a good thing.

All of the rule changes seem to have merit, but the single biggest problem that the NCAA will never address is bias. It has become a major problem especially for the bigger schools with basketball tradition. Refs are simply not calling the game equally. Last year's Tennessee game was an absolute joke

They should make a rule that if you flop in an attempt to get a foul call, the power forward on the opposing team can curb stomp you.
