"We feel like it's extremely important to get the other team in foul trouble," Williams said. "The biggest way to get their big guys in foul trouble is to go inside. That's something that's been important for us ever since I started coaching, and I still believe that."

I may have to make this quote my new sig. Just amazing.

That would be my strategy as well. But you have to have refs blow the whistle.

That is a fair approach on Roy's part...but that has no explanation why our guards got into quick foul trouble in 1st half. Especially Fox getting two while guarding their 3rd string PG on two very iffy calls.

It's similar to Coach Cal's principle...

That's the problem with 3 point shooting teams. They'll never pressure the interior.

That's because Ol Roy knows he's going to get PLENTY of foul calls going his way when it counts the most.:mad::mad::mad:
it is one of the same reasons we run our offense. Send the guards into the lane looking for contact. You know a foul will (or most often) will be called.

I just thought it was a pretty amazing thing to say out loud. In fact, Cal has said that he never focuses on getting an opposing player in foul trouble. He focuses on his players executing his offense. He was asked about this specifically after a game recently when an opponent had a key player with four fouls.

Until we get to the Elite 8 or Final 4 and suddenly the calls ALL go the other way and they swallow the whistles on our end.:mad::mad:

Who cares what Cal said or did not say recently. It is basic basketball strategy to try to get the other team in foul trouble and I bet you can dig up quotes from every major coach in the game's history saying just that. There's absolutely nothing wrong with trying to draw fouls.

I heard another coach say that his team's focus is playing good defense and making the opponent miss shots. I'm appalled that he said this. Unreal!

Yeah you're right. I see what you mean now. Cal did say that

Cal definitely tries to get to the line and with that comes foul trouble for the defense. Roy had a good strategy. I really wonder about some of you

We benefited from foul trouble in the Ucla game. Welsh played very little. All coaches look to get the other team in foul trouble

Both how hard some of our fans look for something to be offended/upset by and the level of butthurt professed by said event that offended/upset them is quite mind-boggling at times.

He should have said that he tries to get all 5 starters in foul trouble in the first half, and have at least two baskets waived off for ridiculous reasons.
