Rothstein: UK on Similar Trajectory as 2014 Team

Yeah, this team is ahead of that group. That '14 team didn't put together a convincing stretch until the tournament. This group has won their last three games by a combined 80 points.

Getting Alex back is the big key because at that point, presumably, Humphries and Skal will have received a ton more playing time and experience. Alex would essentially be the cherry on top for a tournament run.

this. more like 11 maybe.
Bingo.

It depends on how this team closes, but I seem them as far more 10-11 than 13-14. The 13-14 run really kind of came out of nowhere (other than the fact that UK always had the talent on that team to make serious noise). UK lost to Florida at home on 2/15/14, then went on to play very poorly in the last 6 regular season games, losing at South Carolina, losing to Arkansas at home, getting bashed by Florida at their place, needing OT against LSU to avoid what would have ended up being 3 straight home losses. The turnaround for that team didn't really come until the SEC Tourney, specifically the final against Florida when UK's huge comeback fell just short. That seemed to energize that team.

10-11 showed more signs of being a really good team all season long. They just struggled mightily on the road.

I've seen this team more as 2011 than 2014 all season. Although I agree with his larger point, that we seem to be coming together when it matters most.

Looking at the records, I had forgotten that 2014 went 3-3 with two home losses in their last six games and had an identical overall record (19-6) and conference record (9-3) as we do today. There's still time for 2016 to match the way 2014 finished the season. But I don't see it happening. That's why I think this team is more similar to 2011, both seem to have found their "spark" a little sooner.
