Duke freshman Cooper Flagg, Alabama's Mark Sears on 2024-25 AP preseason All-America team
The preseason AP All-America team is headlined by a bevy of returning stars in college basketball

So true. It's ironic, too. This is probably the lowest college basketball has ever been in terms of real talent, and yet the players are compensated at an all-time high. Some of the least skilled all Americans ever
Sears and Davis are skilled, Broome is skilled, Dickinson and love are just shot chuckers I’ll agree with you there. And Flagg is skilledSome of the least skilled all Americans ever
Of the 19 listed as 1st team or receiving votes, I only see the 3 freshmen going 1st round. Some of the least skilled all Americans ever
With the covid year going away, I can see Dybanasta being pre-season POY next season.Flagg probably is the real deal, but it still kinda annoys me when I see guys being named to these lists straight out of high school.
What happened to the notion of earning it? Seems like a guy should play at least one college game before we start calling him a first team All American.
yesIs it a pre-requisite that all preseason AP All American polls have to have a dookie?
Davis is absolutely not better than Sears. There’s no argument. Sears does everything better.I hate to say it, but Davis may be the best player in the country. And Sears may be 2nd.
As for Flagg, yeah I think he'll be good. Not AA good. But 1st team All-ACC good.
But how many times has the #1 ranked FR underachieved, or even flopped? Too many. I'm not saying I think Flagg will flop. But there is a difference in HS to College, where in HS you can just out-athletic (or size) other guys/teams. Not going to happen in college (except in a rare case like Shaq or Zion). Flagg was at the McD thing what 3-4 days, and neither in the game nor the practices did he stand out to be significantly better than the other FR (actually wasn't even one of the best players in the game). So just as important as skills, is how a coach uses and develops those skills, and the players he has around him. Now Flagg does have a good supporting cast, and there isn't someone on the team already who does the things he does, so that's a good start for him. It's still too early to say if their coach can develop (quickly) his skills like the prior coach could. I'm thinking if he plays as well as Holmgren did as a FR at Gonzaga, Duke should be happy. He's not as skilled as Holmgren, but he is more physically ready than Holmgren was.
