Ronnie Shields At Tight End....

I think people in general just need to understand what Matt's show is. He is covering UK sports from an entertaining point of view. That's fine. Clearly there is a market for it. Taking news from his show overly seriously is as bad as being a fan of John Stewart and thinking his show is serious news. It quite frankly scares me the number of under 30's that consider John Stewart to be the most trusted news source. I loved Dennis Miller's SNL news segment back in the '90's but I never confused him with Tom Brokaw. Matt's show is fine as long as you take it as entertaining which it clearly is.

I criticized MJ for always praising Tee Martin and asserting that Martin did a great recruiting here. He just didn't, UK's recruiting significantly declined under Martin and I'm tired of folks like MJ acting like Tee Martin was a great recruiter. It doesn't take much research to see that he wasn't.

Having said that, the KSR show is very entertaining. It's not meant to be the most informative from a UK sports factual standpoint. The Leach Report is much better for that. MJ and Ryan are hilarious together and they cover UK sports from a lighter standpoint. Don't really understand why folks can't just accept the show for what it is. It apparently gets great ratings so they're doing something right.

The comparison to UK BB's roster is silly. There's 13 or so kids you have to keep up with, compared to 85+. These KSR threads on the football board are beginning to be as annoying as the UNC threads on the basketball board.

Would have been nice if I hadn't made the verbal boo-boo between Shields and Long....but alas, I am not perfect...certainly not perfect enough for the football critics on this site. I don't know the football roster like I know the basketball one, mainly because of the number of guys and the fact that I don't get to attend football practice (due to the show time) like I do basketball. I tried to help explain and answer questions in the thread a few days ago about football coverage and attempt to help alleviate some of the concerns. Instead, that post was interpreted (at least by the same few complaining) as being thin-skinned or arrogant, when it was actually just an attempt to try and please those that seem to care enough about the show to listen, yet still complain. In reality, it is clear that there will be likely nothing I can do that will please those folks. So there isn't really any reason to try.

For the rest of you, thanks for reading and listening...you guys are the best. I look forward to whatever mistake I make in the coming days (and I surely will make many) being fodder for the same complaints here again.

If Jones didn't know the difference between Shields and Long, then the criticisms about his lack of football knowledge are legit.

If Jones did know the difference but made a simple mistake, then the criticisms are stupid. Anyone who talks for a living will make mistakes.....

I think MJ has a thick enough skin... If not he has no business reading posts on,The Lair, with either him or KSR as subject matter...
Could be he just likes to have some rapport with the average fan... My only suggestion for the guy is that he read all this stuff within the spirit of continuous improvement... Like him or not, no one can deny his success as an entrepreneur...

If he's still reading I have one simple suggestion...... Fade out KY Joe... While Shakespeare had success interjecting a fool into his art there is no good reason for KSR to copy The Man, William!!! That guy ain't right and is in need of professional help... Let his family deal with his issues... KSR should not be an enabler where KY Joe is concerned....

If matt made an effort then there wouldn't be a "boo boo" day after day. I mean, how hard is it to know what day practice starts on, especially when your site has so much coverage. Maybe you should read more on this site so you'll actually know what's going on. Is it too much to ask for 5 minutes of research before you start your show, each day? Your lack of caring or effort for the FB team is why I no longer listen. I turn the radio off after Leach.

He has a good gig going. I personally do not find his show entertaining or funny. I will tune in for UK news, but if I have to wade thru the sycophantic look at the hosts, I quickly turn it off. I love how Leach has made UK the true focus of his show. Try not to miss that radio show.

I rarely go to KSR the website. I do like that Fresdie is giving his perspective, but feel there is very little reporting there, but a lot of failed attempts at self promotion and humor. Just a matter of taste.

What's wrong with Freddie's take? Yeah, he's a bit of a cheerleader, a bit of a homer, a bit of a sunshine pumper towards the program and what is going on. So what? UK football has had far too few of that in the media IMO.

UL is surrounded by those who preach nothing but Hear No Evil, See No Evil, Speak No Evil. Deener, Demling, Lindsey, Mark Ennis (the worst of all), Crawford, Bozich, Rutherford. Ain't nothing wrong with us having one on our side for a change, someone who constantly puts out positivity and good vibes.

You certainly seemed to dedicated to the idea that Matt getting things wrong means he doesn't care about football. In reality it means that he's trying to speak off the cuff in response to different topics that are brought up.

On todays' show he was talking about Ron Mercer and called him the Final Four MVP in 1996. There are a number of things wrong with that. The Final Four doesn't have an MVP, it's the MOP (at least it was back in 1996). That's such a small issue that it is hardly worth noting. However, Tony Delk won the MOP in 1996. This was pointed out later, to which Ryan Lemond responded, well Mercer scored the most in the title game. That was also wrong. Tony Delk score 24 points (and tied the record for most 3-pointers), Mercer had 20. I realized this was wrong immediately, but nobody corrected him (at least that I heard, I could have missed it).

The point of this is not to say "look how horrible KSR is at getting things right." It was a mistake, sure, but they aren't walking reference books. And also to point out that they happen on the basketball side just as much as football. It happens.

Not to nitpick but on todays show he said Woodson didnt have a very good year in 2006 then exploded in 2007.

2006 Dre threw for 31 tds to 7 int for 3,500 yards leading UK to 8 wins including against Georgia and Clemson and first bowl victory in forever.

Also said only reason Woodson even played in 2006 was because Pulley got thrown off team. Pulley lost the job in 2006 and played WR.

In 2008 he was thrown off and Hartline was forced into action.

But hey who is keeping count [winking]

Talking about something 20 years ago as opposed to less than a year ago. Big difference.

I thought Pulley was gone by the 2007 season?

Talking about a backup TE that never made much of an impact as opposed to two of the best players the basketball program has ever had.... also a big difference.
