Rondo talking to the Pelicans

Why is that a stretch? If you can't figure out how to squeeze 50 wins out of the two most talented bigs in the game and a recent All Star point guard, a whole lot of people need to get fired.

Utah won 51 games in the West last year. Don't you think they can be that good?

Maybe I missed some of the other signings that they may have had, but you really think that Rondo being the only significant addition to a bad team is gonna catapult them +16 wins? They still have the same problems that people have talked about on this board, ad naseum. Shaky outside shooting, among the worse collection of wing players in the league...

Do I think they'll be better? Yes. 50 wins and 4-6 seed better? No.

That's bullshit. He hasn't been on a team for more than a year since he left Boston. Boston got rid of him because he was more trouble than he was worth.

Boston kept him until their title window was thorougly shut.

I think it's correct that he's not viewed as a veteran leader/mentor, but he's actually stepping into a situation where Davis and Cousins are the alphas.

He also played with Cousins in Sac, so that might reveal something.

The + 16 wins reflects having a full season of Davis/Cousins + a healthy holiday.

The 4-6 seed reflects that while the West has added some talent, mid-tier play-off teams such as LAC and Utah are actually weaker. The Spurs, with an injured Tony Parker, also look to accumulate fewer wins.

The 50 wins also points to the fact that this was a 50 win team just 2 years ago, and getting back to that point, with a Western Conference that is now weaker at the bottom, combined with the potential to rack up wins against a very weak Eastern Conference, should be easier today than it was then.

This team is probably more talented than the 50 win team from 2 years ago. So, getting back to that should not be insurmountable.

They only played 17 games together last season, and the Pelicans were almost +3 in differential per 100 possessions in those games.

With an offseason and training camp to work out the kinks, and implement a system designed to maximize their spectacular inside talent, they should be greatly improved over 82 games.

Assuming a decent level of health, of course.

Agree with everything except the 2015 team only won 45 games.

That team still didn't have nearly the top end talent of this one.

Chicago was thrashing Boston, in Boston, with Rondo. Without him, they lost 4 in a row, and weren't all that competitive. Logic would dictate that Rondo is extremely valuable, and that this chemistry issue is exaggerated by the media He has been praised at every stop for his mentoring abilities to younger players, and his extremely high basketball IQ.

Ah, thanks. I knew they were the 8 seed. I think one year the 8 seed in the West may have had 50 wins (maybe)**, and I was mixing the seasons.

** The Mavericks had 49 wins the prior season.

Biggest winner in Rondo signing with the Pelicans is probably Boogie. Rondo already knows how to play with him and their on-court chemistry seems solid. So the learning curve there will be easy. If Rondo can learn to feed Davis similarly, they have a real chance to do some damage.

Yep. I know a fellow, very, very fair, who interviewed him a lot when he was still playing AAU ball. Even he found Rondo unpleasant to deal with at a young age.

They should of went after Paul George and added Rondo forgetting about Holiday. They need that wing. Where is Terrace Jones at? Thought they had him as well..
Rondo
George
Jones
AD
Cousin
That would of been a hell of a starting 5 if they could of pulled it off..

Dallas went rental with him for a few games.

Sac-Town was a horrible situation.

The Bull situation was predictable, but Rondo’s play put the Bulls at 2-0 before his injury. I guess that was merely coincidence?

Coaches might hate him, but you need to reinforce the idea that he kills chemistry with more evidence than what happened in Dallas.

Rondo not the greatest fit for the Pelicans but with the talent level he brings at that price you can't complain.

Jones is a FA.

That team has no spacing... would not play Jones, Davis and Cousins together.

Maybe I missed where Davis and Cousins played a full 82 games together and not like 17? You're insane if you don't think they can be +16 in the wins department this year.

Wish the Pels had more cash to buy a dream team. Most fun I've had watching the NBA last year with Cousins and Davis together. I got NBA league pass for half a season and watched every game.
