Rondo talking to the Pelicans

Rondo = Occasional Beast
Rondo = Triple Double Threat
Rondo = Great Set-Up Guy
Rondo = Chemistry Killer

Sad

When he finally got motivated to play late in the season, he showed that he still has a lot in the tank. For the month of April, he averaged 12.5 Pts, 8.3 Reb, 7.3 Ast., 1.8 Stl. and 1.5 3's made per game.

It blows my mind that at 6'1, maybe 170lbs soaking wet and PAST his prime, that Rondo can still average 8 rebounds a game in the NBA with all the young powerful athletes in the game.

It seems like Rondo and Boogie got along well in Sacramento. Both seem like guys who have a history of not buying in when the situation isn't to their liking, but both are extremely effective when they are engaged. And it would seem that playing together and with Davis in New Orleans would be to their liking. It just might work out.

But if it fails, it could be a really spectacular disaster!

Pelicans need to make this happen...They need a better roster and bench around Davis/Cuz. Plus injuries are going to happen and they simply need to start getting decent players vs. the scrub level mess they've put around Davis in 3 years.

Rondo is one of those great enigmas that will pass through the sports world once in a blue moon. Immense talent and IQ, but never reaches real potential. There are periods of greatness but they are not sustained. Never fully understood or appreciated. Never really finds or settles into a really good situation.

He is one of a very few people who can half ass around, seem disinterested and put up a 15 12 8 6 2 type of line. He can absolutely score in bunches and have a 25+ outing without hitting a three.

I hope something can click in NO or LA. Like the potential of both those franchises over the next 5-6 years, would love to see Rondo have a little rebirth on the back 9 of his career and catch somebody on the rise. Kind of like Andre Iguadala with Golden State.

NO is a sinking ship. AD needs to jump.

It seems the Pelicans might need as much talent they can sign in their backcourt. When you have Davis and Cousins in your frontcourt, find and sign as many playmakers as possible. We all know about Rondo being an odd dude, but it's also true the dude still has NBA level talent on the basketball court. With Cousins and Davis inside the paint, I would risk it and sign Rondo as soon as possible.

You do know he was injured prior to his superb playoff performance, right?

Yeah, Tubby Smith. :pimp:

Rondo would have been a beast at UK had Tubby loosened the belt. I used to scream at my TV in those years when it was obvious Rondo was clearly capable of winning the game by himself and Tubby would demand a few passes to no mans land first. We lost several games because Tubby wouldn't allow him to outrun the scrubs.

Rondo was a shining point for UK in a time before Cal. He gets beaten up enough around here, and I've had two short interactions with him - both he was great. Rondo isn't a team killer everywhere he goes. He's never been given proper credit even when Boston has no ring in the modern era without him and was a top 3 pg in the game at one point. He doesn't shoot like Ray Allen, he's a bum. That's about as far as 1/3 of NBA followers think.

Rondo is an alpha dog with a big ego. There's no difference between him and many other guys in the pro's.

If it fails, it will be par for the course in New Orleans.

I personally hope Rondo ends up in NYC with the Knicks. I'd love to see him make an indy movie with Spike Lee.

The big difference between Rondo and most of those other guys in the NBA is that Rondo actually knows what its like to go to multiple NBA Finals and three Eastern Conference Finals.

Bulls were likely going to take down Boston before the Rondo injury. He can still ball when he wants to. The "chemistry killer" stuff is insufferably fallacious.

Well aware of his season. Maybe you missed that he was benched for +5 games by his coach for poor play/attitude. He was also removed from the starting lineup from Mid-December until Mid-March due to his play and team chemistry. He had no significant injury during that time. He finally got his head straight at the end of the season and played well. Yet, the Bulls passed on their contract option to have him for one more year.

Purely your opinion that "he finally got his head straight". Maybe that was the case or maybe his injury was lingering. Impossible to know what goes on behind the scenes of an NBA team in every situation. Yet, without Rondo's play the Bulls probably don't make as deep a run as they did.
Bulls are probably trying to clear space and go young. Maybe he and they didn't get along, who knows?
Hoping he gets a chance to play with Pels and feed AO and Boogie. RR might average a double-double before halftime in NO.

NO needs him, IMO. As others have stated, with Cuz and Davis they need more talent around them. I've hated watching Davis play on such a suck ass team when he could easily be the best player in the league with a nice supporting cast.

Seems to be a done deal with the Pels.

Real good situation in the making down there. Boogie and AD are all stars and top 10 talents. Jrue is actually a really solid vet PG. Rondo doesn't have to be the man, mentor anyone, or try and save a locker room down there.

Also, he really had a pretty good season individually with Boogie in Sac so that chemistry/relationship should continue and really help.

All Pels need now is a nice scoring/shooting wing and they'll be on there way to making some nice progress.

That's a huge stretch.

Why is that a stretch? If you can't figure out how to squeeze 50 wins out of the two most talented bigs in the game and a recent All Star point guard, a whole lot of people need to get fired.

Utah won 51 games in the West last year. Don't you think they can be that good?
