Never understood the overemphasis on taunting rules for grown men. This isn’t elementary and highschool kids who need their feelings protected.
Sure, if you’re chesting up to someone and trying to pick a fight and/or physically contacting them after a big play then give the T. But celebrations and emotion are part of the game and anyone who has played pickup in an inner city has seen way worse on a Tuesday

Ayers is a clown. It is hilarious that Sallis is acting like that when they were losing by 30 though.
Calling a technical would have been bad enough but if you are sensitive to taunting then I could understand it but to eject him is a joke.
Ayers is on a solo quest to "clean up the league" it seems. I guess if anything he's being consistent. 
A technical is all that was needed here but to be thrown out is way over the line, Ayers is another that thinks people are there to see him. Maybe some day these clowns will be held accountable for their agendas and absolute incompetent behavior. I would have been thrown out too if I was the WF coach, definitely would have gotten my 2 cents in.
I think this just shows that some of the ref's are on the take. No way he should have been thrown out of the game.

I was just about to reply the same thing. Why can't winning be enough? Why can't you just celebrate with your teammates as opposed to trying to bow up to the opponent? I mean, why not care more about your team and not do something stupid that could hurt THE TEAM?
Plus, it may seem soft to call the technical, but it's the small taunting gestures like this that can end up boiling over resulting in a fight/bench clearing brawl. So, as someone who refereed some high school ball a little while I was in college, I have ZERO problem with officials trying to keep that crap from escalating.
My question is... which is softer? Calling a technical or opposing players who can't take the opposing players taunting? See my comment above as to why officials often can't let the little junk go... it's b/c these grown men have too much arrogance/pride that they can't let an opposing player do it without tensions rising.
I agree its kind of soft but, I think some of the reason they police taunting like they do is to keep things from escalating so much. If they didnt todays players tend to want to taunt on every good play (hit a three and turn and stare at the bench etc) so after a while with it unchecked you'd have a lot nasty things break out after a while and they'd spend the whole time trying to tamp that down.

OP , though I like you, I must say you copied a title and movie from media without providing the whole context. He didn’t get ejected because of the technical. He got ejected because that was his second technical . He didn’t not only verbally taunted the player he also gesticulated towards him. That’s a technical that any ref will and should call to prevent further escalation and conflict.
If you remember JR received one for similar behavior towards TA@M bench after a made 3.
Players need to be smarter. Ayers didn’t nothing wrong here. If I was calling that game I would have t him up too.
If you don’t that than next opportunity they will respond with a hard foul and they start fighting. This is not street basketball where you can do whatever you want.

Sorry my volume was turned down at work and I didn't hear it was his 2nd technical. I still wouldn't have called it since he only motioned and didn't seem to say anything but to each his own.
The ESPN headline said "Hunter Sallis ejected after massive dunk" and as I said above I had the volume turned down at work and didn't hear the announcer say it was his 2nd technical. I guess that is my bad for trusting ESPN. 😂
With that said from Ayers position he had no way of knowing if he said something as he was behind him so he had to base it purely on the head tap. If that is something that officials have been told to clean up they could T up guys multiple times for doing the "too little" gesture, tapping their head, etc. I have no problem with it but refs need to be consistent and if they are I don't think most fans would have any problems with it.
All I ask for from officials is consistency. If you want to let the players play a bit, then let them do it on both ends of floor/field. Same thing if they want to call it close.
If you don't like them gesturing then get the damn ball inbounds and back up the court. If the other team wants to do team celebrations after each basket fine by me, we will be shooting layups on the other end in the mean time. We don't need to police feelings

This is maybe the weakest rejection that I have ever seen, but not surprising considering who the referee was. I think the amount of hair gel he uses has seeped into his brain.
The NCAA has to get a grip on officiating, it's all over the place and there seems to be zero accountability for them. I hope Wake at least complains to the league and forces them to respond to such BS.

I agree with you. Players need act like they've been there and done that before and it's just a routine play. Most of the dunks they make and then make gestures after are not that spectacular anyways. MJ, Dr J and Dominique Wilkens regularly had dunks that were flashier than most I see now and they didn't do anything except hustle back on defense.
Maybe don't taunt when your team has only scored 29 points and they are currently down by 27.

It was not even worth a T. He did it and got right back on defense. Didn’t even stop the play at all.

Probably the dumbest rule ever.
They're basically telling kids not to play with emotion. Meanwhile, soccer and football players can practically throw a parade after scoring, but Hunter Sallis cannot tap his head three times without being ejected.
