Rick Bozich on WDRB.com reporting Karter Knox and another 5 star are ready to verbal if assured Kenny will be the Coach next season at Louisville.

I remember when DJ Wagner was going to change everything at UL but he had no intention of ever going to that trash bin. This feels similar but more sad and desperate.

For real, what kind of replacement are they likely to get? They tout muss, oats, beard and the like but I don’t know if they can pull any of those guys. The truth is they are cash strapped. Those guys won’t come for 3 mil a year. Could they have a low level D1 HC or a high level assistant coach in their future?

If two top25 recruits are actually thinking of going to UofL, with an awful coach, to play for an awful team.. then that tells you everything you need to know about college sports today.

There should be ZERO reason a top recruit would want to sign up for that sinking ship. They must have gotten a pretty good deal somewhere.

Richmond may be better. They are so close in the rankings that it's basically a wash.
Adou should be the starting SF next year.
I like Richmond long-term too. Both Richmond and Knox have a lot of potential. But with Richmond you get multiple years (likely anyway), and thus a chance to develop a very nice college SF. Knox has stated he is definitely OAD (I think he actually said something like "10 months"). Easy choice for Richmond.

As for Thiero, I think he should be looked at as the presumptive starting PF next season. In my opinion, if he's starting at SF, then UK likely failed miserably in recruiting the transfer portal.

I think Theiro and Burks start at Forward. Up to yo who you call SF or PF. One has more length, the other more muscle/bulk, both with a little work this summer capable 3pt shooters.

Knox’s dad made it very clear they would not commit to UK until they saw who was coming in, staying, and leaving. Also added that they didn’t want any issues with playing time, etc. Added that Cal wants to get players to the NBA after one year and that’s Knox’s goal. Pretty much the reason we aren’t great anymore.

Hope he goes to UL. Cal can go also.

From interview-

That’s one, and two, in the world of the portal and Kentucky you just don’t know who is coming back. We don’t know who is leaving to be a pro at the end of the day. I would tell that to Cal right now if he was sitting with us. We don’t know the likelihood if the entire team does come back. We’re not going to go there if the whole team comes back. I can tell you that right now. Cal wants you to be a pro. I know that personally, because I know the things he was doing for Kevin Knox, and the things he has done for Kevin Knox. He wants you to be a pro. He wants you to be a one-and-done, and take care of your family

A red sign. Scared to compete against others, one foot out the door. Not all make it totally obvious. Karter is a circus waiting to happen.

I can see Thiero and Burks starting as the forwards, or I can see them manning the PF spot. But 3 pt. shooting is the key, I believe. To be a contender I think you generally are going to need good to great 3pt. shooting from a minimum of 3 positions, and preferably 4 positions.

I think you really want very good 3 pt. shooting and scoring (so volume) from your 2G & SF spots. Personally, I would want my PG to at least be decent from the perimeter. Then I would want my PF or Center to be able to keep the defense honest out there. With Thiero I feel he could give you a real offensive advantage at the PF spot.

In the world of the portal, there’s no reason to grab a kid like this unless he’s in the mold of Wall or Davis ond type. Which doesn’t sound like he is.

I personally rather have a proven transfer from the portal. I'm not concerned about him going to Lville if that's what he wants. Of course he should come here to UK. Payne is gone after this season regardless what Knox is going to do.

Thought I saw a headline saying Thiero may be a first round pick. Anybody else see that. Did not read it but was shocked seeing it. Maybe I just dreamed it?

I know nothing about Knox and have read that some say he is not a good shooter. If he wants to go too UL then let him. With the portal we can get some very good experience shooters.

No, no, no. We don't even want to whisper that talk, my friend. I've thought he was flying under the mock draft radar for a while now. I believe Thiero has crazy upside, and since NBA teams can't resist "potential," I've been afraid some smart NBA team would start taking a closer look at Thiero.

Their best bet is Jerome tang

Cal has said if he was Thiero he would camp out in the gym every night to get a consistent shot and he would be a very high draft pick. The way he has transformed his body, the energy he plays with and his jumping ability. A consistent shot I could see him making it in the pro's. Would hate to lose him for next season.

KNOX, is not going to Louisville, nor is he coming here. hes going to the g league. ignite, he just signed a shoe contract with addidas. now lets see what happens

People wanted to keep Cal because the recruiting class he had coming in this season.
And we’re just a mid pack SEC team.
Ah…, but just wait until next year. It’s being said that UK is very likely to get a couple of reclassification studs on top of the class they already have coming in. The ole Daffy gif is already warming up. With most of the best basketball players alive, how can UK lose? Just ship the trophy to UK, right?

Really depends on how much Adou can improve his jumper.
He has the athleticism for the 3 and can definitely guard the 3

Had a conversation with a buddy who is pretty close to the UL situation and a former division 2 player. He thinks it takes more than 2 years to become a head coach these days with all the responsibilities that an asst coach doesn’t have. Interesting take.
Yes, that's a different take, and there may be some validity to it. But how many major programs are willing to wait 2 years + before having much success? And truthfully, if they were at or around the .500 mark for these first 2 years, it might be worth having some more patience. But that first season they were 4-28 and they're only 8-19 this season with 3 or 4 more losses coming. Make that first season 10-22 and this one 18-14 and it's at least moving in the right direction, but that's just not the case. But heck, for my part, I'd tell them to give him 2 more years. I don't mind Louisville not being very good. :D

I don't doubt that trying to learn that head coach position has a significant learning curve, but when you're coaching at a major conference school like Louisville that has a strong tradition and high expectations, getting 12 wins in 2 years just doesn't cut it, and it never will. I would say this- if a new coach came to UK next season and finished with 4 wins, what would happen? If he was allowed (somehow) to coach a 2nd year and only got 8 wins, can you even imagine the response??! Our fanbase might burst into flames and they'd be picketing and rioting in Lexington.

Sort of a dumb to openly talk about pushing your second born out the door, when you have a first born that already 'took care of the family'.

Wouldn’t be sad if we lost a poor shooting SG to UL if it meant they kept the great KP. Maybe they will win 12 games next year. Kenny should have them to 20 wins by year 5. I don’t see why Cards fans are so impatient. Lol.

Just trying to make sure you guys keep things in perspective. 9-16 and St Peters are two very low points in our programs history. and he missed another tournament besides that one.
omgosh, I don't think anyone here realized that. Please be sure to post this in every non-Cal thread; so that all, are fully informed. Please and thank you

Just can’t see it.

I live in the Louisville area and listen to the Deener Show on the way to work. Listening to the Louisville media complain about how awful their basketball program is is a great way to start the day. That said, I hope the addition of Knox (if true) keeps KP at the helm for a few more years.

He should just stay home and play with his brother at South Florida, who just entered the top 25 in the polls. His brother plays there.
