Richest deal in NBA history!

Actually, the deal that Wall has on the table would be the richest ever in terms of total payout, though over one additional year. I think his total would be around 206 million for six when you add the four year contract extension to the two remaining years on his current contract.

I'm glad he is doing this but is that amount for playing bb too much ? I mean a lot of folks are having a hard time even making it these days. JMO

No, it is not too much. Employees are paid based on their level of expertise. And also taken into account is the rarity of their skill. How many people on earth can do what Curry does, at the high level he does it? Precious few!

You must also take into consideration that professional sports teams bring in a shit-ton of cash. If Curry plays for less, then ownership pockets more. I think he earns his "fair share" of what the team makes.

Sports are a bubble market. It will burst at some point and we will look back at all the silliness someday.

They will always get compensated extremely well but it has become ridiculous. TV deals won't be as lucrative down the road and the consumer won't be able to fill the void.

This is why I no longer watch any pro sports. The money is just too much. It's sickening. The money is there, either the owners get it or the players get it. I have no issue with the splits, I have a distinct issue with the amount of money involved. I really hope it crashes back to reality. Since the early 80's, the average persons income has roughly tripled. The average NBA salary is up 20 times. There is no way to rationalize that.

Walls 4 year 168 million would be more than that per year, but it is crazy thinking someone is going to be making 40+ million a year to play basketball.

Factoring for inflation, MJ's 97-98 contract was worth about $50m. He was worth it obviously.

The contracts these days are the fault of the networks, ESPN / TNT. He bubble is going to bust at some point.

The fans pay in the money to make all this work. If the fans quit watching and the fans quit going.......POP GOES THE WEASAL.

Imo the league going towards superteams will lead to fans not going to games and not watching games in the non-superteam markets.

The amount of money is crazy. I honestly cant wait to see the BUST.

Lmao. I would rather NBA players make 40 million a year than college students getting robbed by NCAA

I and many others are not against the free market in any way but blown over how much one person can earn.
Thats what happens in a free market. People are paid by their economic value to the market. Steph Curry is worth every penny he gets because of the economic value he brings to that franchise.

Just how does the amount of money a bball player or anyone makes have anything to do with 'a lot of folks having a hard time'? If he were paid less, would that help those who are having a hard time?

This country is about a lot of things financially: Hard work, integrity, entrepreneurship, education, skill, and timing. If one is fortunate enough to have any or all of these and makes a lot of money, what does this have to do with others who don't have these attributes?

When I hear 4 year 168 mill, the first thing that comes to mind are commercials for hungry kids somewhere.

I'm sure the people that are speaking against his contract would turn it down. "that's to much boss you need to keep that and just pay me enough to get buy"

No one said that. There is just too much money flowing into pro sports. Once it gets there, it has to go somewhere.

It's what the market says. Can you help stop it? Of course! You have a voice. Encourage people to quit spending money on tickets and corporations to quit sponsoring. Lay out your reasons in a sensible way and put it out there for fans and sponsors to see.

Yeah its easy to rationalize, they have a TV contract that pays them billions of dollars now. What exactly is your issue with them making lots of money?

The NCAA has a multi billion dollar tv deal, and Kentucky has the SEC Network and ticket sales and the players don't get a dime. But some people say they don't support pro sports because of the money involved. Smh

That will change of course. He's worth it because he's the straw that stirs the drink, but guys like paul George amongst others will have their hands out ready as well. Mike Conley was the highest paid player for about 10 mins. Boogie is another one that will get big money like that from some really bad team

Personally, I would rather see police officers, firemen, soldiers, emts and teachers be valued more monetarily than a basketball player. Our society depends a lot more on those folks than somebody that can put a ball in a basket.

In Cuba they all get paid about the same. Teachers and star athletes make about the same. Its a beautiful system.

I'm simply not a fan of anyone making 15K/minute to play basketball. You are welcome to support it if you wish.

When I was a young adult, athletes were rich, but the multiple over the average worker was around 20x. Thats a lot. Its now more like 140x and growing. I prefer not to support it.

I mean, that amount's ridiculous no matter how you slice it, but at least it makes more sense going to a Top-5 player in the league than it does going to a guy like Mike Conley of all people, who had the richest contract in NBA history at some point a year or so ago.
