Replace Kansas in the Championship Classic

UCONN is probably the best choice.
Wouldn't want UNC in it because more than half of their titles are invalid.
Not UCLA, they are a notch below the other teams in terms of current success
Not IU because they are irrelevant

IU and mich st in same conference if it matters.
Ohio St usually has a good team. Maybe Gonzaga, Memphis state, Iowa state, Baylor, UConn etc are not in the other teams conferences.

I think you have to have a National Championship to qualify.

With who? Two teams come to mind, UCLA and IU. Nether qualify. UNC would except for systemic cheating which went on for decades. They shouldn't even be allowed to play basketball because they have no concept of how to do it fairly. I'd stick with KU, but if they decline UConn seems the obvious choice.

UNC, but seriously, although Sparty won it last night, the Champions classic should really be UK, UNC, KU, and Duke. Top 4 Programs all-time (in that order too).

With their 20 plus year of systematic cheating, I don't think I can consider UNC* to be in the big four

That would only allow two different matchups:
UK vs UNC
Duke vs KU
Then alternately,
UK vs Duke
UNC vs KU

UK wouldn't get to play Kansas because UNC and Duke don't need to be playing against each other in a preconference game.

If you go with recent success I would say replace state with UCONN. If you go back historically then replace State and Kansas with UCLA and Indiana

Nah. I think they deserve to be there based on the programs hisory of success. They've not looked good in the last couple of games but they are still one of the top five programs in country.

Arizona or UConn are the only ones that make sense right now. Unless UCLA or IU start playing a lot better. UCLA would make the most sense in that case. Right now we might as well keep Kansas in there. It is fun seeing them lose early in the season every year.

KU is not a top 4 program. I'm sick of hearing it. They're not top 4 in much other than wins due to playing forever. They are snuggles in behind Uconn in titles, tied with Louisville, and just ahead of Florida.

That might be top 7-10, but it ain't 3-5th.

And no Duke has very much surpassed KU I'm not sure how in he world you could think otherwise.

Nonsense.

UCONN is a stupid choice. Above everything else this is about name recognition and ratings. No one cares about UCONN. How many UCONN fans would have been there last night?

Arizona isn't a bad choice, but again, they would have no fans at these games.

Leave it the way it is now. It's has been sold out every year and draws great ratings. Nobody is going to be dumb enough to mess with that.

I wouldn't want to see UConn in there. That would only enhance their relevance. I think we will slowly see them fade away because of how the conference realignment went down. Why give them a stage they otherwise wouldn't have right now. I say leave it the way it is. Kansas is fun to beat.

What are the records of the 4 teams in this classic. I believe we're 2-2 but I'm not sure. Seems like we've played in this more than 4 years.

I think the right teams are in it. If Kansas or any of the teams currently in it start being .500 teams or missing the tourney then I'd look at replacing them. Just because they lose in their games a few year in a row doesn't diminish the event.

I don't agree you can just blindly take the top 4 in history. It needs to be the best 4 over the past 10 years or so. UConn has the titles but isn't worthy year after year. If someone did get replaced or pulled out, I'd look at Arizona first maybe. I think it's important to keep the conference affiliations spread out also so you can keep a good rotation and not have people play a team they play every year anyway.

Someone has to lose. And some of you are forgetting we have another four-team deal with UNC and UCLA (and Ohio State). Why would we want either of them in both? If Kansas were to leave, Arizona makes the most sense. Draws interest in the event to that half of the country.

It's been 5 years. We beat Kansas in 2012, lost to Duke, then lost to MSU, beat Kansas last year, and we won last night.

Kansas is 1-4. Everyone else is 3-2.

Thank you. I was leaving out the Kansas win last year. All these teams seem to run together.

If you drop KU you have to drop MSU as well. MSU is less of a program than KU.

Right, Kansas is the 2nd all-time winningest program in history. They also have 3 NC's, and such alumni as Wilt Chamberlain, and many others. MSU would be the one that needs to go, although NONE of the 4 need to go.
