Crazy things happen to UK recruits. First, they rise in the rankings just because they are UK recruits, and then they miraculously get better over the course of the season, in spite of Cal, who definitely doesn't teach them anything.
After that, a handful of them usually go in the 1st round of the draft, just like they would have if they had gone to NKU.
Happens every year too. It's wild.
It's truly amazing... I mean just ask one of our rival fanbases [cough, cough, UL].
They will be the first to tell you that Cal sucks at coaching and is nothing more than a recruiter (or car salesman) who just rolls the ball out there. UK guys don't develop under Cal... Haven't you heard? UL fans can guarantee you that Cal's recruits were already sure-fire lottery picks straight out of HS, and one year under Cal means nothing.
After all, they claim that if any other coach had his talent they would have won 3 or 4 titles by now... because, you know, these freshman can poop ice cream the first moment they step on campus and any coach would know how to get the maximum potential out of them- especially Rick Pitino who would have passed Wooden, by now, in titles if he had Cal's roster. In fact, Cal has underachieved going to only 4 Final Fours in a 6 year stretch; winning a national title; and one national runner-up, all while playing in the worse basketball conference.
But, why does it matter? UL fans maintain that Cal's wins at UK are unimportant to him... his only concern is for the NBA Draft Night, and he's ruining college basketball!
