...who hated us, who hated Cal, who hated our recruiting, who hated our system, who hated our style...

3 years later, they've not only followed Kentucky's style, but they've almost mastered it.

What hypocrites! Duke fans make the worst liberal look like a liberal...

I still personally prefer the days when guys could jump straight to the NBA or had to go to college for at least three years and would like to see a rule implemented where kids would have to stay for two years or if they chose, could jump to the NBA straight out of high school. So I'm not exactly the biggest fan of the current system, but I get that this is the way it is with college basketball right now.
Only speaking for myself, won't speak for any other Duke fan (or a fan of any other team, for that matter).

Corey's cash, Ice for the 6th Man, etc. K coaching the USA team, NCAA tournament seeds, pairings and the calls from officials. Great time to be a Dook Fan!

There was never a requirement for kids to play college basketball for three years...

It's hard to generalize as Duke fans may have many reasons for disliking UK. :)

I think you have a valid point, but I think there's a distinction: UK has explicitly described its goal as getting guys to the NBA in 1 year. Duke talks about getting the most talented recruits in order to be in the F4 conversation every year.

Maybe it's semantics to some but I don't think so - and, based on what I've read from other UK fans the past couple of months, it seems like some of them also see the distinction.

Anybody that is a fan of dUKe and their coach must be a hypocrite by definition. Holier than thou stuff was a lie then and is a lie now.

I fully expect Ingram, Tatum, Giles, and Thornton to be OAD guys for K. If he lands Smith, add another kid to that list.

If it goes as expected, K will have coached 12 OAD players by the time he's 70, with 10 of them coming between 2011 and 2017.

Clearly he doesn't care about education with these mercenaries.

Most of them jumped on the wagon during the early 90s. Now their fans mostly consist of that generation and their kids who cheer for Duke. There are very few actual Duke grads nationwide, so the majority of their fan base consists of bandwagon hoppers from the 90s when they piled onto a program that went to 7 Final Fours in a 9 year window.

Kinda like buying US war bonds in April of 1945.

Copy Cat coach K on the one & done what is the media going say?

OP, remember. You can't talk about Saint K on here because he is the greatest human being of all time and if you say something negative about the greatest person to ever live that means you are fetid pond scum.

Their time is coming. Coach K will fade away into the history books and they'll plummet back to earth once his replacement fails to live up to the predecessor. Also, the fact that Coach K is copying Coach Cal's system doesn't mean that K is "mastering" it in any way. Sure he's landing top recruits, but he still hasn't proven that he can coach a team of talented players quite like Cal can. There is no way that K would have had the vision to run the platoon system had he had the team we had last season; he would've likely played the top 6 or 7 guys and made the rest of them watch from the bench.

Those dook hypocrites can suck it though because they all know what they are - a bunch of johnny-come-lately's who have to copy the big boys just to maintain relevance.

"NBA factory" , "destroying college basketball", "renegade recruiting", "one year mercenaries".

Duke fans used these terms regarding UK. What say you now dook nerds? I bet I know, "were just adapting to the game".

This is the typical elitist bullshit that makes people across the country depise Duke.

I think Coach K has done a great job adapting to today's game.

What has he done to adapt besides successfully recruit more elite prospects? His coaching style hasn't changed; his recruiting successes are just more prevalent, and that's mostly come as a result of him finally realizing it would be wise to pimp his Team USA role on the recruiting front. The myth surrounding his "adapting to today's game" is curious.

Honestly....this board is starting to sound like the Louisville board. Duke has capitalized on 2 of our failures and it is painful but it is what it is. Cal is great but he would love to have the Wisky game back at a minimum. With just a little bit of coaching at the end of that game, there is no way we lose. After one shot clock violation you might leave in your point guard. After the second straight one there is no way you leave him in when arguably the better game manager is on the bench. I love Cal but what makes him great to kids (giving them freedom to play) is also his kryptonite.

The b%&#h of it is that all the elite coaches: K, Izzo, Donovan, Williams used to ascribe to the belief that the "core" of your team needed to be experienced players in order to win a national championship. Sure K would take a transcendent talent like Kyrie Irving, or Luol Deng, or Corey Maggetee but he believed that the elite freshman component was the final piece to the championship puzzle. Then our freshmen laden team in 2012 came along and proved to all these guys that a team dominated with freshmen and sophomore players as it's "core" could win a championship. Now there are some limitations I don't think we win in 2012 without Darius and I don't think Duke would have won this year without Quinn Cook's off the court leadership and experience but it annoys the hell out of me that K and everybody else will NEVER publicly admit that after our 2012 team won there opinion on the subject shifted and now he is simply recruiting the best young players in the highest amounts that he can. And the hypocrisy of the national media on this subject deserves it's own thread for lambasting Cal and UK and non of those writers writing a single article decrying Duke after this last year's team made a mockery of the NCAA's traditional ideals of amateurism.

Listen, I don't want to argue who is the better coach between Cal and K because as a UK fan it's hard to argue for Cal but I will ask you is this, would you have rather ran the platoon system or won the title? I promise if we just played our best guys 30 minutes a game we do hang the undefeated NC banner in Rupp.
